PC World - collect at store

Can anybody tell me how the "collect at store" option works? I assume I pay by card online as I would if using mail order, but in my case the nearest PC World to where I live doesn't have my item in stock.
One of my colleagues at work has offered to collect it for me from an alternative branch near her home, but I don't know whether it has to be collected by me in person. Obviously they're not going to let just anybody walk in and say "My name is X and I've ordered and paid for this item" and walk off with the goods. I wondered whether you have to produce the card used for the transaction? Or can I simply print a receipt when I pay for it and give it to someone else to collect the item for me?

Answer is no its not like mail order

You do not pay anything until you pick the item up from the store itself.
To reserve somthing online all pc world needs its your name and number - no credit card.
Reserved in store for 24 hours I think.
You go to the desk, with the print out confirmation or reference number, take the item to the till and pay via cash / card as normal0 -
All you need to do is fill in your details and print out the reference number and take it to the till. You will have to pay for the item at the till. Simple!!0

I think its a great system, have used it on a number of occasions and even ordered online the other day for a friend in a different part of the country.0

Just to confirm, yes it is 24 hours they keep it for.
Sometimes the items will already have been got from stock and put behind the service desk, other times they will be in a back store room.
As someone who travels a lot this is great for me as I can reserve it out of town and pick it up en-route and some of the savings can be huge.
Maybe we should have a dedicated thread to cheap items you can reserve to collect, or was there one and I missed it?0 -
Don't forget to use a cashback site for even more savings0

re cashback : some of them give you % on both PAY online and RESERVE online though typically at lower % for reserve. I assume the actually collected/paid for transaction gets logged through PC World's systems.
ONE NOTE: On two occasions I've reserved online only to find at the store that they had NOT physically reserved anything for me and in fact could NOT find any of the product in store - ie the sort of service you expect from a DSG enterprise.
The first time : I obviously indicated my displeasure at a system that had let me down 100% and was instantly told I could have the next (best) equivalent product they had in stock at the agreed price.
The second time I indicated my displeasure and the member of staff just made sympathetic noises - but when I went on to say well I assume you'll let me have the equivalent product at the agreed price they immediately agreed. This was only with 2x £5 box of DVD+RW's on each occasion, but it did mean they had to special "manager discount" the products I did get by around 75%!!!!
I certainly would hope that this is a POLICY decision when they mess up a collect at store reservation. If not then I think you should insist on repayment of your time/travel costs for their incompetence.
Mind you I dislike the entire DSG enterprises and had taken great satisfaction in making PC World price match (got a £100 of SEL products for just over £40, when I had £25 of DSG vouchers from being messed around by Currys previously) though havent checked recently if that price match policy is still in place.
If you are buying from a DSG enterprise then do get every penny of value out of them that you can!0 -
I have reserved twice so far with them...
first time I went into the store they had sold my item that morning..... I was not happy.....
2nd time round they told me to just pick it off the shelf.......
I do not like pc world but this is a new low for them.....0 -

Quidco give "3% for Collect @ Store"
Greasy Palm give "1.25% Cashback (collect @ store reservation)"
I have done this a number of times and they have always paid promptly.
Despite some of the above posts I have never had any difficulty. Once I noticed that the item I had ordered was in the managers special box at a much reduced price, I took that to the desk, told them I had ordered for instore pickup and was still credited with the cashback!0
