What to do with Shreddies?

Options
Have found a big box of Shreddies in the cupboard (well actually on top of the cupboards!) but I don't like having cereal for breakfast (trying to cut down on carbs first thing in the morning).

Anyone got any ideas of what I could use them for?

Thanks! :)

  • You could always have them in the evening with warm milk as a pre bed snack.

I did a web search for you but doesn't look like anyone has had any brain waves so far........

OH always gives old Shreddies, Wheetabix etc to the dogs. He does the same with old rice, pasta and any other dried stuff which he cooks all together to a lovely , eh, I don't actually know, but I wouldn't eat it

Tricky, of course, if you haven't got a dog ;)

well if you are avoiding carbs they are always going to be carbs so i guess the dog is probably the best option.

Only got a problem with carbs first thing in the morning, okay later in the day and in smaller amounts but was looking for something other than the usual use for the cereal.

We do have a dog in the family but he already has more than enough scraps left by everyone for him! :)

I did find an interesting idea via Google to make them into a savoury snack called 'Nuts & Bolts':-

    1 box Shreddies
    1 box Cheerios
    1 lb. mixed nuts
    1 package pretzels
1 cup peanut oil or Crisco oil
    1 tablespoon Worchestershire sauce
    1 teaspoon celery salt
    1 teaspoon onion salt
    1 teaspoon garlic salt

    Directions:
Combine cereals, nuts, and pretzels together in a large roasting pan.
Mix oil and seasonings together. Pour over the cereal mixture.
Bake, uncovered, at 200 degrees F. for 2 hours, stirring every 20 minutes.
Cool and pack in containers to store. Can be frozen.

Seems Americans use this as a nibble during festive times!

I've used them in place of Weetabix in Weetabix cake.
Just reduce the sugar slightly as shreddies are sweeter than weetabix.

i crumble any out of date cereal like shreddies/shredded wheat etc into spag bol and curries cos im too tight fisted to throw it out :D it thickens the sauces up lovely and my oh has no idea he`s eating it as he would point blank refuse to eat it a day out of date  once its all mixed in noone can tell it just takes on the flavour of whatever you are cooking! might sometimes only use half a biscuit at a time but it all goes eventually ;)
