Help Required - Putting a Charge on Someone's House

Can anyone please help me ? I'm not 100% clear as to the process for putting a charge on someone's house. If someone owes me money (the loan is clearly documented) - can I put a charge on their house directly ie. going to the land registry ? or do I have to go to court and get judgement before I am able to apply for a charge ?

No - it was a personal loan to a 'friend' who now won't pay back

You can go through the channel of going sending a letter before action, going to court etc, but it is up to the court what should happen if your friend cannot pay the CCJ. They could make a token offer to the court and this may be accepted. To answer your original question though, you have no way of going through the Land Registry, otherwise anyone could do so for absolutely anything.

You can put a charge on anybody's property just by filling in the Land registry form and paying the fee.

This will not help you one jot to enforce the loan against your friend as only a court can do this.
It might be better for you to get judgement in court first - then put the charge on.
