I Wanna Housekeeping Job

Where do I begin to look??
Have done an online search for these type of jobs in my area and also visited the local job centre....with no luck.
I live in a fairly affluent area with lots of big posh houses, but obviously cannot just knock on doors. Also cannot afford to advertise in newspapers or magazines.
By the way, I have got experience..but picked up other jobs by word of mouth.
When life throws you lemons...put them in a gin and tonic !!

  • Maybe you could design yourself a leaflet that lists your skills, availability and hourly rate. For example - I have 10 years experience providing an excellent standard of housekeeping for many clients from busy professionals to retired clients and can provide references etc.

You may be able to download a template from Microsoft and design a good leaflet in Word if you have it on your PC. It may help if you put that you are willing to provide proof of discolosure and make arrangements for a police check.

  • When I went on a pre-redundancy course they told us that 70% of jobs were not advertised and were filled by word of mouth or from applications made on spec.

Have you tried ringing your previous employers and asking if any of their friends, relatives or neighbours need housekeeping done?

Another cheap way to advertise might be a postcard in the shop window. Make sure it looks professional though, not scribbled in biro!

The Lady magazine is the best known place for appointments -

You'd have to go into a large newsagents to find a copy - but also worth checking at your local library, especially if your area is posh.
According to the web site, 'The Lady is the first place that someone seeking a domestic appointment (housekeeper, companion, nanny, private nurse etc) will turn to.' It says the Royal (not Royle!) family all advertise vacancies in there, so you might be spending Xmas at Balmoral next year if you want! :)
