ok here goes we decided to buy a smoothie maker and the wife ordered 1 on the net. well it came today and it is a l"quip 110.5 model and it says that it is a juicer.
i dont know but to me a smoothie drink is different to a juice drink.
am i right in assuming that a smoothie has the pulp of the fruit /veg finely grated and still in the drink [ no waste] but a juicer just extracts the juice and discards the pulp as waste.
thanks in advance
ps i dont want to use it in case this is the case then we will return it for a smoothie maker

Think of a smoothy maker as a blender andbernlyn wrote:ok here goes we decided to buy a smoothie maker and the wife ordered 1 on the net. well it came today and it is a l"quip 110.5 model and it says that it is a juicer.

Yes you are correct, those 2 appliances( juicer and smoothy maker) are different and are as you decribed. We are using both and it depends on the fruit or vegetables you want to enjoy and than use one or the other machine. Check out Jason Vale's take on Juicing/smoothy making, he has a great sense of humour taking the reader thru all kinds of health promoting ideas.

            ok thanks
so let me get this straight they are 2 seperate machines. also can a person get 1 machine that does both. trying to see if i can save some money

No a Smoothie Maker is a seperate machine to a Juicer for exactly as you describe. But for better value get a blender with a smoothie/ice crushing option. I bought the Anthony Worrell Thompson one from Argos, that has pre programmed buttons, so you just fill your jug with fruit, juice and ice and press the smoothie button. It can also be used to do the rest of a kitchen blending - grating - grinding needs.
I actually have the LeQuip for juicing. I bought it a couple of years ago and still find it a revelation. After blowing up 2 other cheaper crappier brands trying to make carrot juice (get lost Kenwood), i found out about this on a site called Uk Juicer i think. Anyway it's so easy to clean & really does get all the juice out.
Owning a GOOD juicer is a great thing, plus all the health benefits lol.
If it's a smoothie your after get a good quality general blender making sure it crushes ice. If it's a good juicer you can't really go wrong with the LeQuip.
Before i bought mine i did research some consumer review sites like ConsumerREVIEW.com and CNET.
Hope that helps.

            thanks for the help!!
another silly question sorry about that. when you ude the juicer do you have to peel the fruit/veg eg apples or carrots or take the pips out. i would take the pip out of say a peach or plum but what about apples
sorry it must seem that i am THICK but as the saying goes if you dont ask questions you will never know the answer unitl you have broken it. TOO LATE THEN ha ha

Yes for juicing they say it's best to core the fruit (eg apples, plums, etc). Apart from the fact it sould damge cheaper models, it can also affect the taste. (try chewing apple pips... go on! lol). But there is no need to peel. But some things like oranges i don't even bother as the bit that does the juicing is so fine, the pips just get pushed along into the bucket.
You're supposed to cut apples & pears into 4 and cut out the core.
Some juicers now can take a whole apple straight in, so i guess in the end it's up to you.
With my LeQuip i cut carrots length ways and just push through. It has a good sized feeder so you don't have to have llots of little bits. I cut melons into 6 and just feed a whole slither through hehe.
There you go, all the info you need.I've used M.S.E to sort out my debts,my savings, my insurance, my LIFE.

I would personally take the pips out of apples0
