Alliance and Leicester do at least 4.5 if there are no other debts. They will consider higher multiples (a source close to the poster reveals - not me, no, I wouldn't be daft enough to borrow that amount, although house prices can only go up, we'll miss the boat, it's our pension .....)

Some lenders go very high but you have to be a graduate in the medical, legal or accounting profession. And already start on a high income to be considered. According to affordability they can go as high as 10x. Credit record also plays a role and some lenders fix you into a long rate of 5 yrs.0
