I though I would go into more detail about the changes I've made recently, which I think will save us about £900 per year! :money:
I found that our BT bills had shot up since my husband and I started working from home last year. We have bad mobile reception in our house, so can't always use our phones. We wanted to stay with BT because of the free wifi hotspots, and because they give us the fastest broadband speeds round here. I called BT and haggled - we went on the £7.50 'anytime calls' bolt-on to our broadband, and I also knocked them down a bit - will cost us £33 per month instead of c.£50. Saving: £17 per month/ £204 per year
I have switched our current account to Santander 123, and using the guestimates on this site, I think we'll make about £10 per month with cashback+interest Saving: £10 per month/ £120 per year
After the switch completes this week, I will change our fuel supplier. We have a £300 debt with the existing supplier I will have to pay offbut we will be a lot better off. Saving: £16 per month / £192 per year
My husband has just organised our new fixed rate mortgage - payments drop from £670pm to £635pm £35 per month / £420 per year
Grand total: £936 per year!!!
So some of this will be used to build up savings (partly to replace that £300 we owe the energy supplier) and some to overpay the mortgage. How much savings do you think it's wise to build up?0 -
I see lots of people on this board track their OPs with spreadsheets. How do you do this? Literally just a list of the OPs, or more fancy ones which show you the effect of your OPs on the balance?
I am in no way an Excel maestro...0
