p.s. I agree with you about cross-body bags, I have a few too and they are so handy for when you're out shopping... two free hands! :D I go for messenger style bags with a flap, usually in brown or tan. HTH.

I'm older than you citygirl and I agree with both you and the 2 previous posters!! It's just a matter of personal taste!

I am drawn to the cross body bag, like you. However, it is a sensible bag and I have had numerous bags just like that over the years, especially in black. YAWN!! Have you? The purple is nice though!

Bags are a great way to inject a bit of youthful fun and style into your look, without danger of being age-inappropriate IYKWIM.

My faves at the moment are a big soft squashy taupe tote bag for everyday use which I can also get on my shoulder, it fits everything in and looks good with all kinds of different colours and black.

For evenings, I have a large, squishy pewter sparkly metallic fabric clutch, chosen with the help of the girls on the fashion thread, when I was veering to something more boring. It is an amazingly versatile bag, goes with so much, casual and dressy and was an amazing buy. Thanks girls!

For hols and travelling light, I have a butter-soft tan leather studded and fringed long-strapped shoulder bag from Oasis, which makes me happy everytime I look at it and a flat across the body bag, again for travelling, but in gorgeous red leather, which again goes with a surprising number of things.

None of these were particularly expensive, but they have all proved far more versatile and go with far more things than I would have initially thought, so I don't play safe with bags any more!!

    HTH!
  • I'm a small bag girl so don't really have an opinion on either of your bags however my friend swears by this kind of thing

she had a multitude of big bags and uses this to swap between them and still be able to find things. Not sure if it's of any interest but thought it worth mentioning.:)

Not keen on either of them (I'm 45). The black one looks like a going out bag though and the cross body more of a daytime/work bag. It depends what you will use it for mostly.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Also found this Tula bag today reduced in John Lewis, almost half price (£39), again its purple (the black ones are never reduced) but its cute.

It has quite a few pockets and I could pop it into a tote bag if necessary.
