Taxed in temp employment can I reclaim tax

Need some advice for 18yr old full time student. Employed fromMay to July of this tax year in a temp job earning minimum wage. Gave P45 to new employer in December of this year. Temp contract has not officially been terminated as yet. Taxed on first wage BR even although I had given P45 and when I enquired they gave me a P46 to complete. I will be due a wage up to my last shift which was 2nd January . Not sue if it will be taxed and if allowed to get tax back. I have no other shifts at the moment and it was left that they would contact if shifts were available? -Large Supermarket chain.

Would appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance.

if you earn less than £6475 this tax year you will be able to claim it back but you may have to wait until the end of the tax year to do so. Being a student has not effect on your tax status.

Does the P46 still have to be completed and given to employer?

If you are still working there then yes I would complete it as it will get your rebate sorted sooner.

You should fill in the P46. This will tell your new employer whether you have another job or not. If you do have another job they will most likely keep you on BR. I think that they may be looking at a P45 that is several months old & need to know for sure that you have not worked since. If you haven't worked since then they should be able to sort it for you before the end of the tax year, which will save you from having to deal with HMRC yourself.
