Tax on staff mortgages

My wife has a staff mortgage, a benefit of working for an insurance co. The mortgage is in our joint names. I am self-employed and have made a loss in the latest tax year.

She is being asked to pay tax on this employee benefit.

My question is: does anyone know if we could use my loss to offset the tax due on her employee benefit, ie the staff mortgage? I understand that it is her employee benefit, therefore her tax issue, but perhaps since the mortgage is in joint names my reported loss for tax purposes could be a factor?

thanks.

    Fraid not.

Her benefit in kind. Her tax - unless she earns less than £8,500pa including the value of the benefit.

Out of interest, what rate are you paying? Some staff deals aren't worth having.
