The evening buffet thing is strange. Our venue says we must cater for 50% of the day guests plus additional evening guests. That seems a pretty standard way of working out your evening buffet allocation, so its strange that shes saying you must cater for everyone as obviously, not everyone, is going to eat.

    Anyway, barns ive found...

Thanks for your help picklepick & abis21 :)

Sandhole, Combermere & Offley were all places I looked at during my original search back in August last year. Sandhole was out of budget, Offley requires you to hire out all their accomodation for a wedding (which came to over £2000, with the marquee cost on top of that!) and Combermere, although beautiful, was like a sauna in that glasshouse they use for the civil ceremonies - and that was just in on a sunny day in March!

I got rather excited when I saw the Croft website but I couldn't find any details on if they did civil ceremonies. I was planning to find out this week... only to go to a wedding fayre on Sunday & fall completely in love. So we're now booked at Madeley Court Hotel, for the 6th of May 2012! It feels so good to be sorted, like a great weight has been lifted. And take a look at the barn we'll be using, it's just stunning...

    Oooooooo, it looks absolutely beautiful!!!

Glad you decided to change venue. Its been *such* a massive weight off my shoulders since I changed, and the new place just could not be more helpful!!

I know what you mean, at the new venue the wedding co-ordinator e-mailed me the same day we said we wanted it to confirm the booking, and everything we queried was absolutely fine, the band, having candles, catering for a small amount in the evening... he even ok'd me providing food for my afternoon tea (I run a cupcake company so this was something I wanted to do) and said they'd provide tea & coffee free of charge!

Best decision we ever made. Just in the process of writing a letter to the old venue to cancel now... :D

I know, my new place has given me their mobile number and said anything I want, just to ring them. And I asked about having a choc fountain, and they were like of course, anything you want - its your day.

Went through the menu with them again at the weekend as my OH was there, and they asked if we had lots of kids going, which we do, and they said shall we put out an extra table for the kids, with sweets and biscuits on etc, so I was like yeah that sounds nice. And they said it would all included in the price!!

I must sound like a right idiot, cos all i say to them it, thats amazing, thats lovely, oh i'm so happy, thats great etc!! :j

I went in to my old place to cancel as they had a £50 deposit. Told them I had lost confidence in them as it had taken 2 months to get to a menu (for a BUFFET!!) and asked for my money back. She did give it tho, and we left on good terms. So that was a relief!!

Bet you can't wait to write your letter to them! :rotfl:
