Hi
I'm writing a covering letter and my PC is changing all the below spellings, now I don't know which one's are correct and I've looked at them so long that neither of them look right now?
pressurised or pressurized
organisation or organization
maximise or maximize
minimising or minimizing
Confused!!!:(

Left ones are correct in UK English, right ones are correct in US English. Check your word processor language settings and your PC locale settings.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Typical PC using American with a Z - acceptable but I always use the English S - after all it is the English language.0

The s is British and the z is American spelling. I'd go for the s for a cv etc.New CC starting balances for 2014: BC: £2780.00 (2717.45) MBNA: £2185.72 (2160.72)
Repayment a/c: £112.50

To check / change your keyboard settings
Click on start
Click on control panel
Click on printers and other hardware
Click on keyboard
Click on properties
At the bottom right of the window it will show the language, if it's English US you need to change it to English UK and it's easy to do. I'm typing from a laptop but I'm sure you just click on language and then select English UK and then save.
Easy way to check if your keyboard is set to American English is open word then type the word "colour" if you get red squiggly lines underneath suggesting incorrectly spelt, and suggesting "color" as the correct spelling your keyboard is set to US English. Same if you type the word "personalised" and it suggests "personalized".
Hope this helps.0 -
Just turn the spell checker off.0

I did this and it comes up with English UK, however both colour and personalise came up with the American version so have corrected all the spellings to an 's' now. Many Thanks0 -
It is not correct to say s - English z - USA. If you look at OED spellings a lot have z. It is more complex & has foundations in how we used to spell certain words. I would look at a company website, advert etc to see if they have a preference & tailor it accordingly.

The US keyboard has subtle differences from the UK keyboard - eg where £ appears on the UK keyboard, # appears on the US keyboard.
But the nationality of your keyboard does not affect your language settings or your locale. So changing from a UK keyboard to a US keyboard in your settings will not affect the language used in your word processor.
It is perfectly possible to have a PC with a US keyboard running its operating system in German and have its word processor spell checker set for UK English, for example. So there are 3 places you need to go to to check it is all set correctly. Sorry, I am not going to be specific as to where to look as this will be different on different operating systems and I don't use the common ones.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Good luck with your application. I would give it to someone else to check, I do that often as it always helps to have someone cast a second eye.
Oh and watch your apostrophes. I was with IBM recently and they said that they got so many applications that the first stage was chucking away all the ones with mistakes in them!0
