It looks like a lovely pan, but I think you're right to think that you'd need to use it a lot to justify it. I have one like this:
    http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?topcategoryId=15570&catalogId=10103&storeId=7&productId=12606&langId=-20&categoryId=15692&chosenPartNumber=26137185

Which you can get a steamer insert for. Maybe it's worth getting a cheaper one and seeing how much you use it, then maybe allowing yourself to "upgrade" if you've earned it?

Absolutely the last thing I drool over is anything to do with the kitchen but I do have to say that I really quite liked the above Ikea range and thought they would look nice on display on the top of the hob if, like me, you have no room to put this size of pot away.

If you really want the Nigella cookware stuff it might be worth keeping an eye out in TKMaxx. Over the last year or so I've seen various items from her range ( ice cream bowls, measuring cups etc) supposed to be seconds but you would never know and a lot less than the normal sellling price. Disadvantage is of course you are not guaranteed what ,if any, stock will be in and it's really a matter of luck being there at the right time. ( Not Nigella but thought I'd mention when I was on that they often have Mermaid anodised aluminium baking trays/roasting dishes and IMO these are really worth the money especially at the TKMaxx prices).

The other option for you is to have a "Nigella's gorgeous pot fund" in the kitchen; everytime you think that you could have used it, put a pound in the fund. That way, if it's really going to be a useful addition to your kitchen you'll save up £85 in no time. If not, by the time you have saved £85 you'll have forgotten about it & want something else :D (which you can spend the £85 on!)

What a brilliant idea! I think I'll shall try that for everything I think I want but don't need.

It won't be Nigellas pot though.

I love the look of it, but I would say a few things

    1. Its rather big - nowhere for me to store it.
    2. it might be a bit big for sink based washing u ( not so big a prob if you have a DW though)
    3. I just cannot think about what Id do with it.
Couscous Id do with boiling water in a saucepan/ bowl
Stews I do in my SC
soups I do in a pan
If I steam stuff I have one of those "top of a pan" ones, and electric steamers are cheap as ( although I know Id never use one, as I lived witha housemate who had one, and we used it once for novelty -then never again)
spaghetti & pasta- Ive always done in a large saucepan  and its always been fine.

Im a huge coverter of kitchenware and I often find myself drooling over Nigellas stuff. But this I dont think is that useful really.

And to be completely OS, I think it might use more electric/gas to use given how big they are .

youll get a lovely coat for £85 if you are intent on splashing out!! ;)

I had also spotted this - although my big covetted item at the moment is le crueset ware. My mum still uses the same le crueset pans and casseroles she got as wedding presents 30 years ago! And that's everyday use.

I decided that as it was so expensive i would treat myself to the IKEA version, but when i went ot buy it it was all sold out!

However, these things always happen for a reason. Yesterday my mum called to say that she was helping Granny havea clear out and found TWO never used le crueset casserole dishes and Granny wondered if i would like them. (she now has meals on wheels so doesn't cook anymore).:T

I can't wait to get my hands on them :j Thanks Granny!!!

So you never know what might happen now you've decided to hold off before splurging on Nigella's pot!!!

Thanks for the suggestions re TK Max and Matalan. I like to admire the Nigella stuff but am far to mean to buy it.

As a committed miser I can honestly say on a pence per use basis le crueset cast iron (and I have some imitation le chassuer stuff as well) is well worth the money. I buy a new bit every couple of years and never regret it.

my parents have le crueset, anbd I remember them getting them when I was very young as I couldnt lift one of the saucepan lids! So I must have been 5 or 6. Still going strong to this day, thats 23 years at least.

  • Might be worth keeping an eye on Amazon as they sometimes have selected bits of Le Creuset at half price. We bagged one a few months ago.

(Sorry, have just checked and there are no half price offers at the moment)

They usually qualify for free shipping too!
