Nigella's All Purpose Pot

I was drooling over these in Debenhams today and thought I might ask for one for Christmas (well 1/2 for Christmas and 1/2 i'd pay for) - sad I know but I'd rather get something useful.

My question is - is it useful. Does anyone have one?

It's the double one which is on the front of the hard back version of "Feast".

I can think of lots of things I'd use it for. But I really don't want to end up with something else cluttering up the kitchen. It's quite expensive so it would have to work hard to get a good "pence per usage" ratio.

One reservation I have is that I'm only 5'2" and it seems quite high.

So - do you have one? And, more importantly, do you use it?

It is worth spending money on a general purpose pot - whether or not Nigella's one is worth it I'm afraid I'm not qualified to comment on.

We have a 22cm Le Creuset cocotte (big round cast iron pot) that I cook almost *everything* in. It's very heavy but almost nothing burns or sticks, despite it being not non-stick.

IIRC I think Nigella's pot is a double boiler affair, which could be quite useful. You might want to look around at other types of pot though before you splash out - and I suspect they will be reduced in the sales.

Sounds like an expensive steamer to me Peem. My mother gave me her old steamer - looks like a saucepan without a handle and holes in the base.You sit it on top of a saucepan and can steam puds in or you can put fish or veg in. I should think a cookshop will have one for a lot less than whatever Nigella is charging

Looks a bit pricey - have you thought about looking in House of Fraser? My local one (Leeds) is having a cookware sale. Huge cast iron roasting tin reduced from £50 to £20 - and lots of 'all purpose' pots as far as I recall.

(I count the removable crock pot from my £9 slow cooker as my all purpose pot!)

I love Nigella - I've been watching her all week on UK Food on Sky and I'm buying a food processor because all her recipies seem to use one!!
