off sick after operation

hi

i went in for the good old snip, apart from it went far from well. after complications (bleeding internaly) ive been off work nearly a month.

im employed but my boss does not pay sick pay.

will i only be entitled to statory sick pay?
is there any thing else i can claim?

Your firm has to pay at least SSP (after the first three days). If they are a small company they may get this back in a round about way - but that is not your problem.

Anything else (benefits) would depend on your circumstances - I would post that question on the benefits board for a better response.

Hi Andy.

A few years ago my OH was out of work for a few months after an illness and operation.

I dont know your own circumstances (although im guessing that you have a family as you have just had you little operation;)) but when OH was out of work , we werent really eligible for any benefits because i worked - even though i only worked part time.

OH was entitled to ssp from his employer which i think was around £79 (?) At that point in time we also received tax credits and what i did was i "recalculated" what i thought our yearly household income was going to be and i telephoned tax credit office to tell them that our income had dropped and that it was now going to be "X" amount of for the year.

This resulted in a rise in our tax credits - but if you do plan to do this please remember to tell tco when you go back to work!

You dont receive any tax credits at all ? Working tax credit or child tax credit ?

What is your household income ?

we get child tax credit, but have never claimed working tax credit. ill get on this tomorrow

To be honest i think the claim form you filled in to get the child tax credit would have been assessed to see if you were entitled to working tax credits too.

Go on the entitledto website or to the HMRC tax credits website where there is a setion headed "do i qualify" , input your details and it will calculate your entitlement.
