Definitely recommend Siemens. Bought Siemens about a year ago, it was the 5 year warranty that made us choose this, and we are really pleased. Superb machine.

I think that we got a good deal. If we were to obtain a 5 yr warranty from JL, It would have cost us £129.00 for it.
Normally they charge £9 to take away he old machine, but we got £50 as a trade in!!!

Hi Mr Chips, I'm really sorry that you still don't have a solid resolution to this issue. Please could you make contact on email_us@johnlewis.co.uk and I'll ask the Branch Customer Service team to offer assistance.

    Thanks, Jaime

I do usually think John Lewis customer service is very good, but my parents had a recent problem similar to the OP.

They had ordered a clearance tumble dryer, it was supposed to be in perfect condition, just not original packaging.

When it arrived a leg was broken and therefore it was obviously lopsided, so the driver took it away again. They had already taken out their old machine, and so were left without one for approx a week whilst John Lewis arranged redelivery.

They were given no priority on a delivery slot for redelivery, no compensation, and they had to call the store several times as their messages were not responded to.

I had previously bought all my electricals from John lewis, but I will reconsider next time.
  • I hope JL CS standards aren't slipping to the level of other stores because I love JL and the fact that their CS was always so much better than other places!

Hi all - just revisiting this thread for the first time in a while and see there have been some new responses, including by a JL rep.

Update as follows: We received no call back for over a week so my (now 39 week pregnant) wife and I went to Oxford Steet to have a look at the store display model and discuss with a manager. When we arrived we saw the store display model, looking in good condition, but with a sign on it saying it had already been sold!

We explained the situation to a manager who offered us a new machine of "similar price" to the £419 we had paid. In the end we settled for a £517 Bosch which in hindsight is probably better suited to our needs (the spec actually sounds better than the £699 AEG for some reason...). JL also threw in free installation. I asked for them to thrown in a 5 year warranty too for our trouble but was refused ;)

We left reasonably happy, which I am glad about as generally I am a big fan of the John Lewis Partnership (and my Uncle is a Waitrose Branch manager).
If I had a pound for every time I didn't play the lottery...
