It's so easy to slip...

I'm feeling quite bad, I joined MSE over a year ago and vowed to sort my debts out... I managed to get all interest frozen on all my debts which was a good start, then I split up with my partner and had to find somewhere to live.

Then Halifax offered me a bright shiny credit card which I accepted and over the last 6 months have run right up to it's limit of £3500! :o There were some needed items bought, such as a bed... actually that was the only thing I needed! The shame!

Anyway I am now settled in my little flat, I have managed to get a 50% reduction on one of my debts which I paid off this week... although increased my overdraft to do it. But I am intending to get back to the scrimping and saving as before and getting my debt down, or paid off as soon as possible.

I'm going to sit down tonight and work out all my finances, exact amounts I owe and what my priorities are... probably the Halifax credit card as that has interest being added each month!

Just wanted to tell you all of my shame. :o

Well, you're back here so it's not all bad news! First thing to do is to cut up the cards. All of them! And don't accept any more if they're offered to you, you need to be disciplined about this, nobody can stop for you. Actually, try ringing your bank and ask them to stop all marketing/pre-approved offers. I've done this with my bank and they don't send me that stuff anymore, there's a note on my account. If I want something, I'll call them.

Use the snowball calculator to work out which of your debts are the priority ones. Usually the ones with the highest APRs as they're costing you the most in the long run.

    Good luck!

Thanks climbgirl, I intend to sit down tonight and work out everything and rummage around for stuff I can sell on eBay!

I only have the one credit card now which I will cut up, I only intended it to be for emergencies, what a joke.. I am so weak! :o

Will also trawl through all the posts about how to make money out of nothing and see if I can get some of my debts paid off soon.
