Hello,
My Daughter's 5th Birthday Party is coming up and we have about 40 kids coming. We have already hired an entertainer to keep them occupied which cost us quite a bit so are looking for idea's on what to give each child which wont cost too much.
Is cake and some sweets in a bag going to be ok?
Help!

Hi, you could have a Bran Tub/ Lucky dip where the kids pull 1 thing out, could be a small pack of sweets or even a cheapo toy from quality save/home bargins.
and then they get a slice of cake too!?
But I think a bag with sweets and cake in is more than enough!

I think cake and sweets are plenty too.
However, if you did decide on a small gift then Hawkins Bazaar have a sale on at the moment with lots of bits and bobs for 20-50p

I bet these mini-sticky splatters would go down a treat and are 20p each!

At my daughters 5th party I found large disney princess and toy story plastic cups for 50p each. The kids decorated biscuits during the party. before they left i put their biscuits in a mug, wrapped with cellophane and ribbon - done! parents were raving at the school gates about not getting useless tat and the kids talk about the party every time the cup comes out.
It has inspired me to start my own business as a party entertainer that comes with all the gear to decorate cup cakes and biscuits which will then go home, replacing party bags (its a money saver for parties!)0 -
i went to a party once whereby all the children were given a box of novelty cake mix to take home. The girls got princess type ones and the boys got Postman pat, spiderman etc.I thought it was a lovely idea and the children loved making the cakes once at home.Think they are about £1 a box but can probably be found cheaper.0

You could probably make these up yourself for much less than £1. get all the dry ingredients, put them in a little decorative cello bag and add a pretty recipe card tied on with ribbon.
Personally, I'm not a fan of party bags but I know little ones can get disappointed it they don't receive anything. I think cake and some sweets is fine.
It's probably the wrong time of year now but my friend has a child born in May and at her birthday parties, she always gives out sunflower seedlings as favours. The kids love them, they're pretty and won't just be binned after the party.0 -
I think sweets and cake is absolutely fine. For my son's birthday, I made sour cream cartons (from Flying Pig's wonderful Christmas thread http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=38181472&postcount=1637 on football printed paper and filled them with sweets - they were well receivedIt's easier to get forgiveness than to ask permission0
