which is why im here now thinking, well what else can i do. as for the security jobs, id be having to travel from castleford to wakefield 5 times a week at around 7 am till around 2pm. with no expenses payed or anything as such.
According to the RAC, that's about 15 miles. You surely can't be saying that's too far too commute to work?0 -

Have you any hobbies/skills you can persue? Everyone has at least one good ability, seek it out and use it.
You sound really nice and keen - you have my sympathies for your problems.
As it happens I do have a few hobbies and likes that I am actually considering doing,
1 being Car valeting (car cleaning) or bus cleaning
2 possibly doing something in a computer shop like sales assistant or trainee computer repairer
once i have passed my test I wouldn't mind doing driving for a living.
and i now how your nephew must feel
"puts down keys" (my mother asks) "rob, wheres your bike keys?" (i said) oh here on my bed (mother says)"no their not.. they are on the kitchen table)
this sometimes happens to me :rotfl: usually 5-10 minutes after putting the keys down somewhere.
I am now begining to realise what jobs would suit me best, easy basic manual laboring type work.
such as cleaning work (be it,cars, trains and so on)
cleaning offices and so on...
industrial cleaner
like i say though, hopefully once I have passed my test i wouldn't mind driving delivery van type work for UPS or parcel force or similar.
Thanks for your support guys0 -

15 miles yes.. maybe, thats down the motorway, can't go on the motorway on a scooter with L plates thats only a 50cc
and to add, thats going to be one way too. not a complete round trip.
from my house to a friends house ossett is around 28 miles there, there and back your talking just under 60 miles.
considering its a 50cc scooter limited to 30mph all the way on 50mph major roads.
in icy conditions, with no cost towards travel as it would be costing me at least £20 per week if not more just in petrol.
and then. when im halfway through the SIA course,I have to then get a security job, then continue the rest of this course, then while working pay back the £300 for the SIA badge which is then taken from my wages. (which when learning to drive is too much money to be paying for something you never wanted in the first place.) which if you then factor in (for a time i would be having to travel to wakefield somedays, and then somedays over to a possible job too. id be doing way more than I could possibly afford.
as said above.
I really aren't too keen at all on the idea of being a security guard as I find the prospect rather worrying as I was bullied at school rather badly and lost many teeth and don't like confronting people of an aggressive nature. and Think being a security guard would have me on edge all the time. ( A time to which I would sooner forget too.)
I am sure you appreciate this.0 -
Sure enough you read this easily enough, If this had been a written letter,Then it would have been a different matter (as my hand writting is poor).....
the reason behind me not wanting any security jobs and really not liking the idea behind is.
I was rather bullied at school and subsequently lost rather a few teeth because of this.
last thing I would really want now is having to confront people and being put into a difficult position and be left feeling how I was bullied at school.
if this makes any sense.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
I've not read any other posts by you, so what I have to say is purely based on this thread.
As I see it there are several issues here, and you need to start in the right place if you want to get anywhere.
School was hard for you and there may well have been conditions such as dyslexia that made this worse for you, but you didn't have the condition(s) diagnosed and so basically found school/studying hard and unrewarding.
Having left school you wanted to work, but the above issues meant you found it hard to do the jobs you had, furthering you frustrations, and increasing your lack of confidence.
Having to claim JSA the jobcentre are now involved in your life and they only have certain options that they make available to you re. training, and also jobs. All the past is making this even worse for you.
So you've gotten to the point where you feel pretty crap. - fair enough.
But you know you do want to do something with your life so now you are going to have to be the one to sort out your own life. I'm not saying that's easy or simple, but lets start at the beginning.
You say you don't have a GP. Everyone should have a GP so register asap. It might not be nice to speak to them about your issues but it's never to late to actually find out if you have a diagnosable condition and see if there is any treatment available to you. For some dyslexics something as simple as a sheet of coloured plastic has really changed their ability to read and study! I'm no doctor, but I wouldn't underestimate the treatment that might be available. Also low self esteem can lead to depression - another thing you want to avoid - or have a doctor to help you deal with as necessary.
Studying - so your experiences so far have often been off putting, but you have been able to identify why. Going via the JC may not be the way to find the help you need, but there are all sorts of adult education options available, if you can post on the Internet and hold a conversation, and can pass a driving test then you've proved you can learn stuff!
Working - I understand the pressure from the JC to go into a totally unsuitable job can seem constant and unbearable, so you need more advice I think from someone more knowledgeable about what you can actually be reasonably expected to be put forward for by the JC, and how that actually relates to what you can do.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -
It wasn't meant as thrown back insult at all, just merely stating a fact,The one thing I am capable of is typing.
And thank you for saying how well I laid out this thread.
I have come to the conclusion that,This SIA badge is certainly going to be more hassle than it is worth.
By not being so worried about anything "That could go wrong" and begin to concentrate on the things I would like to start putting right. Should be a good way to start.
I would like to think that if I was given another chance at a relatively easy paced warehousing job and not being worried and becoming frustrated (by being told I was getting things wrong every 5 minutes) and keep my head down, concentrate (possibly take some Karms before going to any work, would hopefully make me feel more relaxed and help me actually concentrate instead of focusing on the things im getting wrong.
I don't enjoy feeling so crap, It is just the way I feel after being sacked from what can only be named as 1 of the easier manual laboring jobs. Which has made me feel as though im no use to anyone,
But if I could simply put these past experience's behind me and move on again Im sure this would be of great use to my advantage.
If I ever did get another job in order picking,I at least now know what to expect (some form of degree) and should not let this worry me.
going to sound rather well... stupid of me but " i wish I had what other people have, that sense of "work, its just something we do, Love or Hate it,we just do it"
I think its time to get into a decent sleeping routine and eating properly again, and hope that this makes feel slightly better too,And hopefully should do better in any future work.
What do you think?0 -

What do you think?
I think I asked, but are you OK with reading? so that if you had a written list, could you follow it?
following a list of quick fire instructions is hard for lots of us: DH holds down a very responsible job, but it's no use saying "please can you take the clean washing up and cut some bread and empty the compost bin and email your brother before you go out" because he can only remember to do one thing at a time.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Hi jobneeded.
Your post inspired me to register so this is my first post.
Many of the things you have said applied to me when I was younger, low self esteem, prefer working on my own etc.
When i was in my final year at school (1983) we had a careers man come in with a computer that worked out what job you would be best suited to after giving about 50 answers to various questions.
My top job came out as a FUNERAL DIRECTOR, !!!!!! :rotfl:
Anyway, I have done many things over the years including HGV1 driver, trainee mechanic, factory work, fork lift driver.
BUT I never really enjoyed any of them. I have always hated work, working with people and getting up in the morning.
I like to rise at 11am when the gentle rays of light arouse me from my slumber.
NOT to be woken up by an alarm clock when its still dark
So I am now 43 and guess what I do now?
I am a self employed sia security guard and I love it. I started on my own in 2001, before licences were needed. I have not had any hassles as I patrol empty offices in the evening so have little to do with other people, great
The wages are not great but I take my laptop in and go on the net and watch dvd's when I can, plenty of tea breaks too.
Once you get your sia badge you could go on the course to be a CCTV operator, zooming the cam in on shoplifters and dodgy chavs lol
That way you don't deal with the public, you just watch them and radio through to other guards if you see something happening.
Try it, you may like it.
Well done on passing your theory test, that aint easy !0
