Want First Direct Mortgage but self employed

We have had sole accounts with First Direct for 20 years, and for the past 5 years my husband has been using his account to run a small business.
Now we'd like to apply for a FD mortgage, but wonder if they'll close his account when we say he is self-employed. We have always had good balances and ran our accounts well over the years.
Has anyone had any similar experiences?
