Prescription

Can someone please help me out here because I think Im being a little silly.....

I had a prescription a while ago and I somehow managed to run out of tablets sooner than I thought. I have a slip of paper from my last prescription which says I can re-order the tabs. Can I just take this to the pharmacy to get my tabs or do I need to take this bit of paper to the doctors again? Ive never had a repeat prescription before :o

Hey charlie, it depends on how long ago, is long ago. I would suggest give your doc or surgery a call they would be best suited to advice you. I do remember my last prescription was only repeated twice after that I needed to go back to my doc to see if they were still ok to take.

it was about 3 months ago - it doesnt make clear on the slip if I need to go to the docs or the pharmacy.....so confusing haha

Is it an actual prescription, or is it a repeat prescription order form? The former is unusual, you would normally get a bit of paper to take to your surgery and the doctor will make out a new prescription at some stage - at our surgery you can collect the script the next day but each one works differently. I suggest you call the surgery and talk to the receptionist who will be able to explain how their system works.
    Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!

  • You're not the only one to wonder about this, OP. My OH thought he could walk into the chemist with the repeat request form. He was very disappointed that he had to take it to the doctors' surgery and then wait two days to pick up the script.

some pharmacists can get the script done and sent direct to them, so it's worth checking.

and our GP will write repeat script on request and send it direct to local chemist, saves going to GP twice.

When you get your next prescription made up you may want to also check you've got the right amount of tablets and that you're taking them correctly (ie not taking more than you should each day). If they didn't last as long as you expected it is possible there was a dispensing error made
