Sorry I hadn't realised her name was currently on the mortgage as well, I thought it was just yours. If its in joint names then you will encounter another problem in that you will stay financially associated with your ex. Which means that anything affecting her credit rating would also affect yours.

Are you in the process of getting divorced? You really need some advice from a solicitor as to a proper way to split up your assets and liabilities. It won't necessarily mean you cannot support her in some way but you do need to make sure you are aware of all the consequences etc.

Thanks for the info, but could I take her off the mortgage and get dss to pay me rent as she does qualify for it.

I would imagine you probably could if you were divorced and she would have to come off the deeds to the property as well and therefore lose any beneficial interest in the property. Although if there was an equity in the property and you had to pay her a proportion of that equity amount to buy her out then she may no longer qualify for hb?

If you were no longer linked in any financial or legal sense then I would guess hb could be paid - but you may be better asking on the benefits board.
