Homebuy Direct - experiences?

I've recently been reading into the Homebuy Direct scheme and from what I've researched, looks appropriate for my needs and circumstances. Has anyone ever used this scheme themselves as a first-time buyer and do you mind if I ask for your experiences?

  • While waiting for a contributor who has actively used the scheme, can I suggest you take the time to use the search facility, as it has been discussed quite often, before.

Reading up on the experiences of those who are trying to re-sell might also be of interest.
Act in haste, repent at leisure.

Oh my life what a stress this scheme caused us! where do i start???? Probably best, as mentionned by cloudcuckooland to use the search facility and read the old posts- i posted a few times in there. We went on the scheme 2 years ago. It took forever to get started, so don't expect things to move quickly. The funds that are allocated often run out, we were told this after 6 months of waiting. When you do get approval for the amount you need then you feel happy but that's when the real problems start- incompetence, never replying to emails, losing documents etc. In the end we had the boss doing our case and we sent everything by special delivery. I complained so many times. They even lost the whole of our file!! We lost one flat because of them, as it turns out we got a better house second time. Maybe things have changed now, who knows. Don't want to be all depressive about the situation. Best advice i can give is do it, but don't get too excited until the day you are in your new house. So many things fell through for us, even right down to the last day and not transferring the money correctly.
Make a note of every phone call, every piece of post etc, that helped me with my case, i even went to my local MP who pushed things for us.

Don't know if that's useful lol!!

Also we have read some horrors about what happens if you want to move house...that is another story though...

    EDITED

Can I just add that was the Homebuy scheme through Thames Valley that I am specifically talking about.
