Council tax - single person

Options
Hi
I bought my first house in march 2010. I've been looking over my financial records and thought i was paying too much tax for my house. I checked the band against my council's website, which says i should be paying £1373.84. I am currently paying £153p/m, working out at £1836 pa.

I also live alone and have done since i moved in, i had thought i would automatically receive the single person's allowance but this doesn't seem to be the case. Does anyone know if council's back date the single person's allowance?

thanks

You have to apply for a single persons discount. Give them a call tomorrow and they will sort out for you.
  • Council tax direct debits are normally taken on only 10 months not 12, you have a holiday in Feb and March. Did your 1st DD go out on April 1st 2010, also did you get charged for the month of March when you moved in, if not then that will be collected this year.
As Jim said above register for single person and that will save you 25%.
