Never mind the jokes, how did they manage to go into liquidation? Saunton was packed on Sunday - must have been 100 people in the water. If that was similar across all the surfing beaches in the UK, there must have been thousands of surfers out there, even in the middle of the coldest winter in years.
Frankly, I'm fed up of the BMWs and Mercs with a board on the roof clogging up the roads, but I suppose it keeps a lot of the tourist economy going.0

Do people in the water, in a wetsuit, with a board, ever have anything to do with the BSA at all? Or did they just buy the stuff and now hit the water to surf?Never mind the jokes, how did they manage to go into liquidation? Saunton was packed on Sunday - must have been 100 people in the water. If that was similar across all the surfing beaches in the UK, there must have been thousands of surfers out there, even in the middle of the coldest winter in years.

The BSA's more about competitions and rules and stuff. Not about a bunch of people who have a board/suit and some spare time.
If I had a board/suit and some time, I'd just be out there surfing, not following the organised sport.
 Edit
Just found this: "the sport has 250,000 devotees in Britain from children to “silver surfers” and is estimated to be worth more than £100million annually to the economy."

£100million divided by 250,000 people who like surfing is just £400/year per person. Break that down into what they could spend and by the time you've added up: a board, a wetsuit, fuel to get to the beach, a towel, a couple of "I love surfing" stickers and a keyring, maybe a few B&B nights..... it doesn't actually go far.
