Ive got myself an interview on thursday for farmfoods but im unsure about it as when i left my last job in retail I said I wouldnt go back to retail and i based that on the fact that I thought I would enjoy my current job when in fact i dont enjoy it.

When i returned the phone call the guy said about bringing references with me or something along them lines(he said it would speed up teh process so im guessing he wants the references ), I take it he wants me to get 2 references and bring them with me, if I am to bring them with me how would I approach my manager about it

  • You don't ask for references off your previous employment, you just have to give the contact information.

What they are asking from you is to provide them with details of your previous employment, who you reported into and contact details. Therefore they can get along and send off for a reference.

If by any chance they actually wanted you to contact them yourself (which is strange..) just inform them that you must have got your wires crossed and you will get the reference.

If it comes down to this.. simply write/sent fax to your previous employer to avoid any awkwardness. Though, your reason for leaving is perfectly okay, everyone changes their mind!

    thanks for that,

yes i have the contact details already for use
  • I imagine the interviewer probably requires two personal references, i.e. people that can attest to your character. This could be former employers (if you left on good terms) or other people (not relatives).

A reference from your current employer would generally only be taken up, once the position had been offered and accepted.
