I know, I have a handbag problem *hangs head in shame*
Well feeling VERY congested today, on more than one occasion I have coughed so much that I have well that's TMI... Called the docs to ask about an antibiotic, they wouldn't give me one so I have to go on Friday morning (again), this despite the fact my sister took my neice today with the exact same cough and she got.... antibiotics! Anyway, kind of felt like I could've went to work but the coughing is very irritating and as I said, I've had to make for the loo on more than one occasion, so would not be pleasant for anyone.
Haven't done too much, managed to walk to the shop (and forget a letter I had to post, duh), and got some stuff for dinner so £4.10 spent today. Can I just say though that I have not used my Visa card now for....drum roll......35 DAYS - go me!!! That is totally unprecedented for me, I've not even been on ebay.
Anyway, waiting on OH to come down, making macaroni which I hope he enjoys, I've been eating but can't taste or smell anything so hope I make it ok.
As for the throaty cough Romy, I do have manuka honey, unfortunately it's in a cream which means I can't actually eat it, boo. Have been drinking Covornia though, maybe a tad too much cos my huge bottle is almost gone. Well OH be on his way soon, so better go a dig out my macaroni recipe, I'm forever losing it.0 -
Evening all,
Well OH managed down tonight and enjoyed his macaroni and garlic bread - me, well I could hardly taste it. He assured me it was rather tasty, he did scoff it so don't think he was fibbing.
Still feeling very bunged up but actually feeling a lot better. Hoping to be back at work on Monday, none too bothered about the rest of the week as I have got loads to do in the house so will happily do that to stop me from fretting about how much I'm missing work. Only two days til pay-day, woo hoo! Paid early this month though so will still need to watch what I'm doing. CC payments don't come off til the beginning of February then I can make my BT to my Halifax card too. So exciting, I'll be updating my signature on pay-day, think I will throw the extra £100 I have in my account to the CC, otherwise I'll just spend it. If I get to Feb pay-day a bit short I can always pay less next month, swings and round-abouts I guess.
Well just going to read some more diaries then head upstairs to see if I can get into bed. Night all x0 -
Afternoon,
I honestly woke up at half nine this morning, answered OH's text then promptly fell asleep again. Not looking good.
Feeling a tad better, didn't cough as much last night so wondering whether to cancel my docs appointment for tomorrow - hate using appointments when maybe someone else worse off needs one. Will wait til later in the day and decide but will cancel today if I feel better.
No plans to go out today except to start my car which I just realised has not been driven since last Friday, it's frosty here so here's hoping it's gonna start ok. My sister booked me in for the gym on Saturday morn at my request as I was convinced I'd be ok by then. Not so sure, should I go for it? Was thinking of going a walk today but it looks horrid out, really icy cold.
Also no money spending today, so that's 11 TNSD's in January, so only 9 days of having spent money, not great but not bad either. Well better pop off and get my porridge now my tablets have settled.0 -
No to going to the gym regardless of how you feel by then - give your body a chance to recover.
I can understand your worries about getting your teeth done for your wedding, but in the other hand it'll be horrible if afterwards when you look at the pictures you find you realy notice the teeth - don't get me wrong, nobody else will notice them, but if YOU will then that's enough. Here's a plan - why not get them done for you once you are debt free? Never mind the wedding (nearly typed weeding instead! LOL!) - it sounds to me like in the long term it will benefit you, and your confidence.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Hi Swinstie
Hope you're feeling better today. It takes a good two weeks before you feel normal again believe me. It's now nearly a month since I had the flu and I still have a bit of a cough left over.
I had my teeth done last year when we got a payout from an endowment policy that matured. It cost me £900 but it was money well spent. I had my crown replaced, two veneers replaced and one new veneer put in (all at the top front). Before I had this work done the dentist gave me a bleaching kit to use at home which was £150. When I first had them done I couldn't stop smiling at everyone (nutter on the loose!!) and admiring them in the mirror. I felt on top of the world. It's surprising what a difference they've made to my confidence as the old ones were looking rather yellow and I was self conscious everytime I smiled. I don't suppose anyone else noticed but I think the worst critic of yourself is yourself. If you can afford it get them done - way better than any expensive handbag or shoes!
Have a fab weekend!I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0 -
Well peeps, it's a big yes to getting my teeth done, once debt free and having saved up for a bit first. Just been looking at photos we got done on the first cruise I went on with my sister, you know those official ones they do then expect you to pay $25 for each pic! Well, my teeth looked, not terrible, but you could see my terror at having my picture taken as I was also trying to hide them, so don't want the wedding photos having me look like I'm trying to 'hide' from the camera. Didn't ever think my teeth were too bad, but the crowns now look really wonky and old - bit like myself really, ha!
Anyway you're both right Essex and SA, it will be a huge boost to my confidence and it's so much more of an investment than buying more handbags and shoes - considering my 33 handbags has risen to 36 as I found another 3.
Not to mentioned the 60+ boots, shoes, trainers, sandals, flipflops I have. I have counted at least 60 but no for sure I have a few more pairs hanging around. I'm disgusted at myself. I really wish I had the time and inclination to ebay - I know, Urg I still haven't done it.
Well, was at the docs this morning, been signed off work for another week, sounds about right with the two weeks to get over this SA, been unwell since last Monday/Tuesday, properly ill from last Wed. Was wanting to go back to work on Monday and I maybe will if I'm feeling 100%, can still self-cert til then. He's put down on my line that I have croup! Always thought that was a kid's thing, oh well, he's the doc.
No need to cancel gym tomorrow as got a call today to say the instructor has a course and can't get anyone to cover, so it's been cancelled anyway, phew.
Spent £14.50 on some much needed groceries also, although I did buy yoghurts for OH who is now working at the weekend, oh well, suppose he can use some for his lunch - he usually eats two yoghurts after his injection everyday.
Pay-day at last - this is great though, hardly spent anything on petrol and lunches cos been off work - infact I've only been at work one week this year, that's terrible. Have transferred my car fund money - £50 and £30 into my Birthday/Xmas account. Can't wait to get my over-payments made, was going to do them both just now but they aren't due until the beginning of Feb so the money is better in my account than their's early.
Well better go jump in the shower, OH is coming down tonight, spag bol for dinner, not that I will taste it but still need to eat something. Have a good weekend xx0 -
Hi Swinstie, my cold symptoms and coughing have been going on for weeks. The GP gave me the same advice re paracetamol and anti inflammatory tablets. In the end though i went back down this week, and said it has now been going on and off since the beginning of November and i was having to take time off work again- luckily some of it was over Christmas. She agreed and prescribed me antibiotics- i do feel so much better already ( 3rd day) the coughing has stopped and the pain in my left ribs as well.
If necessary go back down if it has been going on for a long time.
Good news as well on being nearly debt free.
BOB xBlackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:0 -
Thanks BOB, it's horrible how this cough just seems to last for ages, think last night was the first night in over a week that I've slept better. The doc did suggest a high dose of steroids - had to look up adult croup and apparantly it does exist, but I didn't want to go down that route, so just going to continue with the remedies I'm using just now. I will go back if I feel worse during the week. Was deliberating as to whether to go to work on Monday but will wait and see how I feel tomorrow. I can always send my line in on Monday if need be.
So, not done much today at all, just had a nice bath and waiting on OH texting to say when he is heading down. He's bought haggis for dinner, yum yum, really looking forward to that, he's bought two but hoping he's not expecting to make both, I'm not that greedy!
As for the nearly being debt free, I am going to pre-write my post for The Debt Free Roll of Honour thread, in anticipation for getting my last payment made. Debt free apart from my mortgage, I checked the balance and couldn't believe how low it was, my original mortgage was only for £23K then I added £14K for home improvements/debt consolidation (daft I know) and this took it to £37K, it's now sitting at £28K. Just thinking how great it would be to pay it off, BUT that would only happen if we were going to stay here full time which is not in the plans. Could have it paid off in aroung six years or so - with a really strict payment plan.
OH is going to move in with me once we're married and we'll stay here for six months to a year, as where we want to live, the houses are a lot more expensive. He's currently back home with his elderly parents and tbh, their house would be ideal for us eventually but he doesn't want to ask them if we can buy it. I can understand, he feels as if he's saying 'can we buy the house cos they'll not be around for long'. His dad is 83 and his mum is 77, but his uncle (dad's brother) is 91, so his dad (and mum) will hopefully be around for years yet, so it looks like we're best staying at mines and saving up more and just get our own house.
This year is going to be tight with wedding/cruise savings as it is, so whilst not ideal, it's the best decision. Sorry, havering now, just want to fast-forward to being in our own house (and not cramped in mines).0 -
The time will soon pass, but I know waht you mean - I am impatient for everythingSometimes it's hard to walk in a single woman's shoes - that's why we need really special ones!Total debt @ Oct 2008: £29,226.42 Credit Card- £[STRIKE]7493.56[/STRIKE] - £7243.56Weightloss : 0/34lbs0

Hey Swinstie
Finally caught up with your posts.
Don't worry about the Ebay - it's not like I can talk. I have even challenged Buffy and then didn't follow through.
36 handbags and HOW MANY shoes?!?!?! You could open your own store!!!!!
I'm sorry to hear that you are still unwell - take your time getting back to work. I know you are bored silly but you'll be surprised at how knackered your body is.
I'm also impressed that you are writing your DF Roll of Honour post. It must be so motiviating. I never did get round to writing one but I think I will do it once I have paid for the house improvements.
Right - better head to bed. Will catch up soon.
