They're closed tomorrow but if I've not heard fom them by then I'll get in touch with CAB on Monday.
Also, does anyone know what the chances are of credit card companies closing your accounts when you ask them to? I've just noticed on my account that they're requesting two month's payments and charging the interest after my last letter requesting that it be closed and interest be frozen. I have just repeated my request in a 2nd letter as I never received feedback from the first. (other than a phone call that was cut off mid conversation.)0 -
Tarka, I'm with the co-op which was easy to open and I did it online. Took about 2 weeks to get my debit card.
I doubt they will close your cc accounts they'll keep them "live" to charge you interest on the balance.
Prepare yourself! I have 3 debts with HSBC and they are by far the worst creditors it has been my misfortune to deal with, and don't even get me started on their in-house DCA/solicitors :mad:DMP member 265

I didn't expect them to let it close that easily but I was hoping... As of the next bill I'll be past my limit due to the interest pushing above the boundary because of the £1 payments. I imagine that'll incur a whole new host of fees and issues.
I went to Barclays today to set up my account with them. The lady was quite rude actually and I didn't get to set the account up as she insisted on running a credit check. After querying this, she did confirm that this wasn't necessary after all but that they did need to run a check on my bank statements and address history. (Acredit check surely?)
She would also not accept my passport due to it being out of date, or my driver's license due to it being registered at my parents' address; even though I had brought additional proof of address details via my tax form. (Which it listed in their paperwork as being valid form of proof of address.) I was pretty annoyed as my driving license was still valid, irrespective of address and thus should be acceptable as proof of id. Santander were more than happy to take it.
I have an old post office account so was wondering if was worth using this for my 'spare' account as I'm having so much trouble setting up a basic bank account... Any thoughts?0 -
I just ran a check on the two possible addresses that may have had a CCJ attached due to an old dispute with a finance company handling a cancelled gym membership. And no CCJ!! Woo hoo!!!
There shouldn't have been as I was perfectly entitled to have cancelled the contract due to an add in clause that I insisted upon with the gym. The finance company were disputing it however as the original contract was for 12 months, but my add on clause allowed me to cancel after 6 months if I found work outside of the county (which I did after 4 months of membership).
Subsequently, I let the contract run up to the necessary six and cancelled as per my arrangement and the finance company started threatening legal actioning and demanding the full year's fees. I refused, citing my agreement being directly with the gym and never heard anything further. I was concerned that they may have registered it as a CCJ as I received a nasty letter from a debt collection agency but again never received any further correspondence after my last response to them.
Still, it makes me concerned to do a credit check in case they do track me down and decide to start things up again...0 -
Since before Christmas I've berm late with a couple of payments and received two default notices. I'm about to start my DMP with Payplan and have been told to open new account. I managed to open a Lloyds Bank classic account online. Of course I opted not to have an OD!!!
They must have credit checked as it's not even a basic account. Might be worth a try??
Second and final LBM 01/01/11 Nearly got there but fell of wagon. HAVE to do it this time :mad:0 -
