Barclay Card's Fixed Direct Debit

Hi all,
Quick question, I've worked for Crediit card companies for the last 12 years and have never come across this before...
I set a fixed amount up with Barclays for my BT I did recently. I thought I'd make more of an effort than a min payment DD.
I recieved my most recent statement with a late fee and a notice that they were switching my promo off due to the min payment not being covered. Now I know that it is parcially my fault for not checking the previous min payment amount on the statement but from every Credit Card issuer (including the ones I've worked for) a fixed amount cannot be less than the min amount. Mine was and Barclays at the time of setting me up didn't tell me that the fix amount I requested was less than the required min payment, surely this is a very naughty trick to pull....has anyone else come across this?

I had the same problem and I have read somewhere on my other Barclaycard that if the amount set is not enough to meet minimum payment then they will take minimum payment. I haven't chased them up yet because I have been away but this does contradict their own information.0

Just found this on my other Barclaycard as mentioned so I do think Barclaycard are at fault!!! I am going to chase them up now
You've chosen to pay
The fixed amount each month.
If the fixed amount is less than the minimum due we will take the minimum.0 -
Thanks for your response, I think this is very misconciving and if I am unable to get back my late fee and have my promo rate reinstated, then I will be taking it to the Onbudsmen.0

can you paste the link to that information please?0

m8cky, have you set this up with the call centre or your online account?0

was this payment by DD or standing order?0

@richard734 call centre when I activated my card
@Clapton DD, not a standing order0 -
I have just taken out a Barclaycard and was pushed to set up a DD for a fixed payment. I requested the Minimum only as i'm taking full advantage of the 0% on purchases.
When I queried what the minimum fixed payment I could set was (knowing I was planning on Maxing the card) I was advised that no matter what Fixed payment I selected, the Minimum would always be taken. Get back on the blower to them...0 -
I've spoken to them, they are saying its my resposibility to ensure that the fixed amount covers the minimum payment....Rubbish!!!! I've clearly gone wrong somewhere down the line and they don't know what it is so are taking the moral high ground!
They have refunded the £12 late fee but I have to ring AGAIN when the next statement comes out as the 0% hasn't dropped off yet, what a bloody pain in the backside!!!0 -
I would also suggest that you go to the online account management pages as you can set text alerts and all sorts from there. Wont make up for your issue, but might help stop it happening again.0
