    Read your handbook.
In the Audi handbook there is a simple procedure that must be carried out to re-programme the fob should the battery need replacing.

If such a procedure is necessary for Vauxhall, I expect it will be detailed in the book. If you don't get an answer there or on this forum, you might be better off asking or joining a Vauxhall forum :)

Some Vxl ones will just reprogram evben if you think the battery is on the way out.

    What Vxl is it?

It's something like unlock the drivers door using the key in the lock, get in, close door, insert key into ignition and then press a button (not sure which).

GM (they own Vauxhall, SAAB, Holden, Opel, Suzuki and many others) have some really stupid ways of programming keys!! One the Suzuki's involves at utterly ridiculous procedure, involving (slight exaggeration) pressing window switches, turning on/off the wipers, flashing the headlights and pressing the pedals in a certain order while standing on one foot with your head inside the glovebox.

I recently changed the battery in my keyfob and didn't have to do anything else. There wasn't any problem with opening the car. Mine is a Corsa if that helps.

Fail, you cannot get your head in the glove box of a Suzuki.. :D

Do they actually own Suzuki?, I thought they only had a relationship with them.

Suzuki make far better cars than the rest of the junk you mentioned.

On mine, if you change the battery before it's completely dead then it'll just work straight away. You take the old battery out, then as long as the new battery is inserted within 30 seconds everything will be hunky dory.

If the battery is completely flat, then there is a process for re-programming it - as mentioned above, your handbook will tell you exactly but it's along the lines of put the key in the ignition, turn it to the first "click" and press the key-fob button for 20 seconds, or something like that !

If you get really stuck, the guys over at the Vauxhall Owners Network have been really helpful to me in the past :

^^ They had a large stake in the business, not a total ownership, they sold out in 2006/2007 I believe, but during that period all parts suppliers and quality matters went through GM and the alarm/imob/keyfob was a GM design.

And you must be able to get your head in the glovebox, how else do you justify the atrocious driving skills of Wagon-R owners? :p
