We all know that vat is increasing by 2.5% and we all know that some stores will take the opportunity to add a bit more on top. So do the sums and let us know what stores and what goods are increasing more than VAT. Don`t forget that the increase is in reality 2.5% of the price BEFORE vat is added so isn`t just 2.5% of the price we have to pay

Interesting quote from BBC news this morning. Full article here - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-12099638However, the VAT rise may spur a broader increase in the price of goods, according to a survey of 200 senior managers by accountancy group KPMG.
It has claimed that many retailers are planning to use the tax rise to "mask" more extensive price increases.
It said 60% of retailers and consumer product manufacturers planned to increase their prices over and above the VAT rise.
But some retailers, including Marks and Spencer and Debenhams, have said they will pass through the cost of the tax rise only gradually, although according to Mr Houstoun, this may just be because it is not feasible for them to raise all of their prices overnight.
60% is a lot more than I was expecting! And I tend to be a pessimist about this sort of thing ...Sealed Pot Challenge 5 - #1742 :j0 -

Not necessarily unwelcomeThere's something to be said for having a curb on consumerism and a return to Make Do and Mend :money:
I'll move this to the Tax Board later
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies.
