Hi everyone because dh was made redundant in October and we now really have to watch what we spend, however we do get fed up with this sometimes watchng every penny everyone likes some nice things now and then so still with finding a bargain in mind have been having a look in the sales and its interesting dh will stear clear of dept stores like Debenhams because they have a posh display thinks they will be more expensive but with my christmas present money i got a posh and glam pair of shoes for 7 pounds from Debenhams also yesterday a good conditioner from mr m summer berries and pink orchid glorious fruits conditioner for 1 pound both items were very pleasant and made feel posh but without breaking the bank .Just because money is tight we still want to look nice the shoes made me feel like a princess with a diamonte buckle and go with everything and as for the conditioner i could nt of got the hairbrush through my hair without it, without conditioner id look like Freddie Boswell off of Bread.:rotfl:

  • Loads of stuff in the sales, but my best bargain was at a charity shop last year, where I got a 3 quarter length modern Authentic Armani winter coat for £2. It fits lovely:D

  • now thats what i call a great bargain and if you take good care of it probably be able to sell that later for more than you paid for it. i call that an investment Penny. i like charity shops never know what exciting item your going to come home with , charity shops sell some very nice things and hardly worn everybody can think you look wonderful , are a lady that does lunch one day or another who is digging the weeds up in the garden in her designer Planet shirt you look great in it but its only cost you 3 quid from Oxfam know one says you got to tell anyone where you bought it. thankyou for the post Penny you got me thinking and i might go look in the charity shops this week as now i want a posh handbag to go with my posh shoes:o
  • Whenever I'm near a shop of any description I'm constantly asking myself whether I need it or just want it. Usually, if it's not food it's a want.

I have enough shoes, boots and clothing to last a couple years as an absolute minimum.

My greatest want at the moment is a washing-machine and I doubt I could afford one even in the sales, so I'm looking for a second-hand one.

I got my favourite perfume in a gift set with lots of bits and pieces in it for half price, it never normally goes on sale but the box was damaged! I was over the moon as there was no way I could have justified buying it at full price!
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!
  • good luck with your washing machine hunt and hope you find one years ago when we moved into our first home we bought a secondhand fridge which i think was out the back of a furniture shop , i believe a shop thaT also did house clearances ,it cost us 25 quid and it was old and dated but was one of the best little fridges we ever owned so sending good luck your way lets hope you get a good second hand one.:o

Keep a look out on freecycle to if you have one, my friend put two on there recently as she just wanted someone to take them away and leave room in her garage.

She had two elderly relatives go into homes and had to clear the houses fast, one of the washers was 8 weeks old.

I found a lovely party dress in Monsoon for £15!!! But I didn't buy it because I didn't need it.

I did buy a pair of Pied a Terre shoes for £8 in the charity shop... didn't really need those either ;)
working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?
  • Flipping heck! Eight weeks old, that's heartbreaking, that is. My main handicap when trying to acquire white goods is that I have no access to any transport so I need to arrange collection and delivery somehow. However, I do have a plan and I'm going to put it into action tomorrow.
