You need to solve a very complicated puzzle to have a chance at winning a prize. In the past, the prize has been $250, although the site is UK based. At the moment, it does not say how much the cash prize is (unless I am mistaken).

"The site is undergoing a makeover at the moment so please excuse the rather cluttered format."

Any help at all greatly needed and appreciated.

Here is this months puzzle:-

HE CLOSED THE COLLEGE AND PUT OUT THE
FIRE
BUT EAST AND WEST TOGETHER STILL DID
EXPIRE
A COUNCIL MEETING TO HEAL THE WOUND DID
HERE TAKE PLACE
YET CURIOUS INSTANCE; NO PLOT REVEALED
IN ANY CASE
BUT CHANGE FOUND IN A BANK A RAIDER’S
UNDONE
MARKED A NEW BEGINNING FOR A MUSICAL
SON
ALL TOO SOON DID THE REAPER MAKE HIS
CALL OF DUTY
ON THIS FAMED PLAYER FAR AWAY AMIDST
HILLS OF BEAUTY
BUT NORTHWEST EYE DRUNKENLY WORSE
DWELT ANOTHER FAMOUS FOR VERSE
HERE YOU WILL FIND THE MAN AND HIS
CURSE

WHO WAS I, WHERE DID I LIVE AND WHAT WAS MY CURSE?

I could be way off mark but these are my initial thoughts on some of the beginning bits. Just trying to help out and contribute. :A

    "
HE CLOSED THE COLLEGE AND PUT OUT THE FIRE"

Could it be anything to do with the huge fire at The National Fire Service Training college?
    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1183709/Blaze-leaves-1-3m-trail-destruction--firemens-college-sprinklers.html

Can't find an East & West connection though.

A COUNCIL MEETING TO HEAL THE WOUND?...

"MORETON Town Council has backed the Fire Service College's controversial bid to build 300 new homes on its surplus land"

NO PLOT REVEALED IN ANY CASE?...(As in plot of land?)

But residents overriding concern was the impact on the town's infrastructure, its roads, education and sewerage, as well as fears of more flooding.

Well, it's better than anything that I can come up with. (Not that that is saying anything, as I am absolutely stumped!) However the verse starts with "He". If it is to do with the fire at the National Fire Service Training College, then who is the "He"? It is also odd wording for the first sentence. I can't think why it says "He closed the college and put out the fire" - logic would have it that if this is referring to one incident, then it would be the other way round, i.e. put out the fire and closed the college. I wonder therefore if these are two separate incidents. Either by the same person, or by someone of the same name. If so, the fire would need to be a pretty famous fire and it would also need to have been put out by one person singlehandedly, rather than a fire brigade.

    Random ramblings: -
I was wondering if the fire could be more symbolic - someone who closed a school to stop a rebellion of some kind. It didn't get me very far though.

I was looking at colleges that have an east and west wing that were damaged in a fire, but again nothing.

I somehow moved on to the White House, but although there was a small fire there, it didn't damage enough to fit in with this.

I also tried looking for a musical person whose father was involved in a bank robbery and couldn't find anyone. "Change found in a bank a raider's" undone" sounds like an anagram, but can't get anything from that.

So lots of dead ends, but might spark something off that someone else has thought of. :o

    Another possibility:
    From Wikipedia
"On 15 November 2002, Strummer and The Mescaleros played a benefit show for striking fire fighters in London, at the Acton Town Hall. Mick Jones was in the crowd, and joined the band on stage during the Clash's "Bankrobber." An encore followed with Jones playing guitar and singing on "White Riot" and "London's Burning". This performance marked the first time since 1983 that Strummer and Jones had performed together on stage.[5] Jones later remarked that it was totally unplanned and that he felt compelled to join Strummer on stage"

This relates to Joe Strummer of the Clash, who was born in Ankara, Turkey
BUT CHANGE FOUND IN A BANK A RAIDER’S

He died aged 50 in Somerset - but i don't know if that ties in.

I also wondered if the last para referred to Rupert Brook - will come back to you if I find anything.

I don't know why this should ring a bell - but it did.

I would say that the verse: BUT EAST AND WEST TOGETHER STILL DID
    EXPIRE

Is either Istanbul (where the east meets the west)

Or more probably i think due to the word "expire" it refers to Berlin, as in when the wall came down, so therefore could be refferring to the time, which is a clue, or thats the place.???

this is hard.... regardless of entering the comp, i woudl like to know the answer as it is starting to nag me now.

I looked at the site, and think this is clues to take you on an online treasure hunt, you'd need to be the guy from the da vinci code to get through it all and end up at the correct website... :-)

    From Wikipedia

College - As well as an educational institution, the term can also refer to any group of colleagues, such as an electoral college, a college of arms or the College of Cardinals.

I may be totally wrong, but i am pretty sure we are looking at this all wrong, and rather than try to solve the whole thing, you need to use each line / verse as a step to the next website, and treat this like a real treasure hunt, as if you were doing it on land - if that makes sense.!?!?!?

i.e The first line is: HE CLOSED THE COLLEGE AND PUT OUT THE
    FIRE.

I know this is not the correct answer, but for example purposes if you took that as saying go to www.firecollege.com then you would go to that website and on there look for a link to a further website, which has some relevance to: BUT EAST AND WEST TOGETHER STILL DID EXPIRE

    etc etc....

As i said tho, i may be totally wrong, but it does say it is a treasure hunt, and I did a few of these when I was younger, and the clues would always be in order and would get you from one place to the next. Plus the last line is: HERE YOU WILL FIND THE MAN AND HIS
CURSE -meaning if you have managed to navigate your way to the last web page / blog / myspace profile, you will find the answer there...

    ...

Treasurehuntcash have been running these competitions for the last few months. We have been pooling our ideas in the past and together have managed to solve them. The first one was comparatively easy, but the later two were more challenging and this one looks like it might be the most challenging of the lot. I will paste links below to the last couple of threads and it might be worth your while having a read through our musings to get an idea of how the promoters mind is working.
