I don't think you should "go a few months without clothing", especially in this the coldest of winters!! - but perhaps go without new clothing?? Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!

    Haha! Agreed!

What is a decent amount per month to spend on clothing? I tend to get my clothing in one go - usually during the sales (I'm not a fan of clothes shopping). My monthly clothing budget =£8. My girlfriend likes shoes, which is why she makes up the remainder - which is fair enough.

oops, I meant new clothing ;)

Do you have any clothes you never wear or does your gf have any shoes she never wears that you could try ebaying?

If you don't have a Nectar card get one and register it at nectar.com. Then you can see all the places you can collect points at. Remember to use it each time you shop, or if you forget to take it keep the receipt and get the points the next time you are in store. You could also fill up with petrol whilst you're there and get the points that way too, every little helps :)

She only really uses the other car when I am working away at the weekend, to visit family, and do the shopping. This really is striking me as an area that could be addressed to save money now.
There are two things you could investigate for this:
    - online shopping
    - car clubs. Car clubs give you the flexibility of a hire car, in your area, when you need one. However, they're not in many areas yet, but worth googling for one in your town just in case. There's also another scheme where people like you make their car available for others to "borrow", so you could either make yours available during the week (perfect for somebody who needs a car to get to work, but theirs broke down and is at the garage for 2-3 days), or for you to use somebody else's at weekends. I'll try to google this 2nd thing to find its name. It's not that well-known.

    Edit: Here it is, http://www.whipcar.com/
"WhipCar is the first service in the world where a car owner can rent out their vehicle for money, whenever they are not using it. WhipCar pairs approved drivers with spare car time. We screen all cars joining the service and all drivers booking cars"
