Up until the beginning of this year I paid all of my bills on time and the minimum amount. I have just graduated from University and last November I left my part-time job as my boss kept on giving me extra work and changing my hours. I couldn't find any work till February during which time you've guessed it I put items on credit cards and ordered off catalogues.
Upon leaving University in July I have found it hard to get a full time job. I wrote to all my creditors explaining the situation but found very few wanted to listen. I contacted payplan in August who advised bankruptcy as I wouldn't have enough to live it. I didn't want that and have effectively buried my head in the sand, until now. I received a letter from Northampton County Court over money I owe to Next. I really do not know what to do, or where to turn to. I will post a soa at the end.
I currently work weekends for 16 hours at 7.53 an hour and an extra 50p on a Sunday. I have also joined the local council employment agency who have found me work Monday to Friday, so am currently working 7 days a week. I don't want to leave my weekend job as I enjoy it. I am currently on a 3month contract for my week day job but have been told it will be extended to possibly a year. The salary is 14,000 per year.
Income:
Weekend Job: 410 per month
Week Job: 800 per month
Debts Owed:
AA Car Loan: 5000, 137.12 per month (stopped paying July 2006)
AA Visa: 2200, 45.00 per month (stopped paying July 2006)
Studio: 3200, 121.00 per month (stopped paying August 2006)
Captial One: 900, 50.00 per month (stopped paying June 2006)
Barclaycard: 1100, 35.00 per month (stopped paying August 2006)
Great Universal: 1300, 190.00 per month (stopped paying July 2006)
Next: 1200, 120.00 per month (stopped paying July 2006)
LX Direct: 350, 35.00 per month (stopped paying June 2006)
Littlewoods: 800, 45.00 per month (stopped paying June 2006)
Grattan: 350, 25.00 per month (stopped paying September 2006)
Kays: 60, 10.00 per month (stopped paying July 2006)
Additions: 790, 35.00 per month (stopped paying June 2006)
Carphone Warehouse: 120, 35 (stopped paying July 2006)
Natwest: 1600 Interest Free Student Overdraft
In total I owe about 19,000. I can't believe I have been so stupid. I also have a bank account with HSBC who I do not owe any money to and am in credit with them!
On most of the accounts above I have received default notices but came accross this site by accident and was wondering if anyone could help me.
My outgoings each month are
Rent: 200 (still live at home)
C/L: 15 per month
NTL: Broadband/telephone 20.00 per month
Petrol: 75 per month
Dog) 20.00 per month
Food: 40.00 per month
Insurance 25.00 per month
RAC: 10.00 per month
Thanks for listening and I welcame any advice you can give me
The thing is that ive received through a County Court form as Next want to recover their money. Do I just put down my permanent weekend job or do I put down my week job as this is only a temporary job with an employment agency for 3 months.
I am really unsure what to do and also a bit scared at receiving this form.
Please please help me.

Hi Tinkerbelle,
rule number 1, calm down, you are among friends here.
Rule number 2.. If in doubt, refer to rule number 1.
The county court form sounds like an attachment of earnings form, where they will take the money direct from your wages.
You only put down your full time occupation.
Secondly, and this is meant in a caring way, you have missed quiate a lot of payments, i think you need to contact the national debtline or cccs, their contact details are on this site. They will come up with a debt manahgement plan with you, and will contact your creditors directly on your behalf. Do this first thing in the morning, it will be a huge weight off your mind.
Then we can look at ways of making extra payments.
Take care,
Mike0 -
i'm no expert, but if i were you i would go to the citizens advice bearau, take all the information you have and they should be able to negotiate reduced payments to your creditors, i sympathise with you it is so easy to bury your head in the sand, but as far as i can see, you have done the hard part now in facing up to it, there is help available give them a call"Don't go where the path may lead,go where there is no path and leave a trail"Anthony Robbins0

Thanks I contacted Payplan who told me to go Bankrupt as I didn't have enough to live on. I assume this is because they only took into account my permanent job. I have been told that my temporary job could last for a year or more.0

Too be honest I do not know what I would have done without this site. I know that I have lots of things going for me the fact that I have a great family and that I do have somewhere to live without fear of being kicked out but you guys are really great.0 -
Hi Tinkerbelle,
if payplan have suggested that have you thought about going Bankrupt?
I know it has short term ramifications, but it will allow you to live your life again.
I know many people on this thread think that you borrowed the money, you should repay it,indeed, Iam one of them, but mental wellbeing and looking after yourself come first.0 -
Even though you've been to payplan there's nothing to stop you approaching the National Debtline or CCCS as well to see if there advice is different...You should never call somebody else a nerd or geek because everybody (even YOU !!!) is an"anorak" about something whether it's trains, computers, football, shoes or celebs

Cheers for that I may as well try them. With my temporary job I will have enough money to meet any repayments that they set up. Its just if they will take my temporary job into consideration as it is 37 hours a week.0

I've just done a quick mental sum and it looks like you almost have enough to make all of the minimum payments.
I'd suggest drawing up a workable budget and then writing to all of them in turn explaining the situation, asking for an interest freeze and offering a monthly payment.
I think things would be better if you could clear some of the smaller debts. Less clutter.Happy chappy0 -
Can anybody tell me how much tax i will pay on the second job?0
