Slicing fruit and veg for a dehydrator.

In order to slice fruit and veg equally for a dehydrator, what is the best sort of slicer? I know a knife is the cheapest but not necessary the easiest and quickest. Thanks.

I use a very sharp knife and get on fine with it.....don't like gadgetry if I can avoid it, usually feel that the time you save is used up by the extra washing up....but thats just me!
