a rag rug is what i am attempting i also saw it on victorian farm a piece of hessian some old rags cut into strips and i know there is a proper tool for the job but you can use a crochet hook if you have one:xmastree:Is loving life right now,yes I am a soppy fool who believes in the simple things in life :xmastree:0

Remember spending hours cutting thrums for peg rugs when I was a child. . . . we had no tv in those days so many long evenings were spent winding wool. cutting thrums, knitting squares for hm blankets, embroidering tray cloths or crocheting "vanity sets"
Did not use a hook - used a "prodder" - a short piece of metal with a point at one end and rounded flat piece at the other to poke/prod the thrums through a large piece of hessian held taut over a hm wooden frame.
Wool fabric was most hardest wearing - my mum would buy up any leftover wool coats for pennies at the end of every jumble sale to get raw materials:heartpuls The best things in life aren't things :heartpuls
