Elliptical Cross trainers

Happy New Year everyone! Am coming up to the big 60 and need to do something to get a bit fitter.
Need to lose half - full stone, so that's not too bad but the main thing is I am stiffening up rapidly.
Used to have a very physical job (retail) and since I finished, that's when it started. Health wise good though blood pressure is on the up a bit. Used to walk a lot and still do quite a bit of gardening in the summer.
Was thinking of buying an Elliptical Cross Trainer - could anyone reccomend one or know anything about them?
The Doc says to just go for waks but I would be more likely to use one of these as I could do it any time.
Are they suitable for all round fitness or would I be better with something else? Can't go to a gym as nearest town is 45 mins bus ride away (don't drive)

Have a look on e-bay - narrow your search to your geographical area so you can go and pick it up. I got one for 99p (only bid) a couple of years ago. It also cost me another £10 for the part to fix the computer/stride counter, although that wasn't essential.
Did it make me fitter? Yes, definitely, but I have severe mobility problems and can't walk far, so any activity can only be a good thing. Did it tone me up, no not really. Did I continue using it... no. It now sits in the utility room and makes a handy clothes horse. Which is why I suggest you get a cheap one off e-bay and make sure it really is for you, before shelling out a fortune.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -
Thanks for that zzzlazyDaisy, good advice!
I looked on e-bay and there were loads but didn't look at "local" ones.
Am unsure - want to get fitter but also want to tone up. Want "one thing does all" :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Afraid mine will probably end up in the corner too.
I suppose it's like Gym membership - all good intentions!
Will have another think on the matter.0 -
Ebay is a good idea. I was thinking about buying one of these myself but I was wary on spending £200 just for it to turn into (yet another) gadget that I got bored of quickly.
One available locally for £15. Hmmm....0
