Correcting a credit report

Hello,
I declared bankruptcy in 2006.
I have recently obtained my redit report from Experian. I read the `Correcting my credit report` here on the Forum and then read through the Experian report where I find that, although some of my creditors show as `Satisfied`, a number do not and indicate that the balances at the time of my bankruptcy are still outstanding.
I have looked at Experiian`s help section but this isn`t actually much help hence my request to the Forum.
Do I contact Experian and ask that they correct my report in line with the date of my bankruptcy OR do I have to contact the ex creditors who don`t show as satisfied and request that THEY amend my record with Experian?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Regards,
lakesman

You can dispute the information with Experian if you want to.
BUT, all they will do is contact the lender to query the entry. If the lender doesn't agree to a change, Experian can do nothing.
The point of writing to the lender direct is that you don't depend on the CRA to do it for you. You can with one letter require the creditor to correct records with all 3 agencies. And from the outset can show you have taken all direct steps you can to get things sorted yourself.
That is why the sticky advocates writing direct to the lender.
However, disputing the entry through one or more CRAs will certainly help if you do that as well.

Be sure to check back with the CRA about 6 weeks after sending the letter to make sure they have updated then follow up if necessary.

i have contacted experian and now equifax and my experian credit report has had one old entry removed and all the others showing as settled, so it is def worth contacting experian.
I intend to contact equifax next week to see what they are upto as i have sent them the proof of my bankruptcy also.
My advice lakesman is keep looking here as these good people are a wealth of help and info.
