I am now. According to there complaints policy if they recieve a complaint by phone they are suppose to put me through to the complaint department, this didn't happen. It was only when I wrote in and complained that the complains department got involved, not that they've been very helpful yet. So they broke the first stage of their own complaint policy as well... not that means anything except showing that they don't give a c@@p.

It's called "Prior Consent" but the only stuff I can find is about email and tick box marketing.

Elhall do you have other proof or a medical professional that will state that you are dyslexic? If so I think the RAC may have fallen foul of the Disability Discrimination Act in the provision of goods and services. http://www.opsi.gov.uk/ACTS/acts1995/95050--c.htm

Contact the RAC in writing. You should send this letter by recorded delivery or fax because it is a letter before action, and you don't want the RAC to claim they didn't receive it. (You will be surprised the type of companies that try and do this i.e banks)

Inform them in the letter, that they have breached the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 and it's amendments, by allowing a dyslexic person limited time to read complicated documentation on their doorstep, and threatening person that they will remove the cheque if they didn't comply. (Make sure you use the words "threatening" in the letter.) State that you clearly stated before hand that you didn't want PPI and due to their breach of the DDA you want them to refund the money within 28 days and place the loan on the advertised rate without PPI, and if they don't do so you are going to take further action against them.

If they don't pay back the money see if you can complain to the finiancial ombudsman (http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/faq/index.htm ) if not use a weekend newspaper (The guardian, The Sunday Times) and get help from them.

You don't have to prove that you are dyslexic to the RAC but you may have to if you take the matter further.

The RAC will not like it know publicly that they don't give people a lot of time to read documentation especially if they have a disability that makes reading slower.

Yes I can, I had the assessment a while ago... around 5 years ago. When doing my GCSEs I was told that I had a reading age of 12 year old. This was because I couldn't take in complicated data very quickly although I have a good vocab. At uni I had extra help and was given a computer through the grants system.

I had to get my brother to write the complaint letter for me as I wanted to make sure it said what I wanted saying, in fact he'll be writting the next one. I'll make sure I use that advise about the Diablity Act, you are right. I had 25% extra time in exams to read through questions... I should have thought.
