Christmas Presents - unexpected reception to them.

I wasn't sure how to title this thread, but wondered if anyone had given presents this Christmas that were received better than thought? I bought my 13 year old niece a very expensive perfume set, which I knew she would love and also included the Pictureka game I had from a newspaper voucher on here and though she was dubious about the game at first, thinking it was too young for her, she now absolutely loves it! So I guess I am wondering wether the most inexpensive gift or gesture you made this year made the biggest impact than those that cost more?

I posted this on another thread - when we were wrapping kids presents on Christmas Eve, DH held up a toy monkey with long legs and arms and asked if I was sure it was something DS13 wanted. I had bought it to replace one he had when he was younger that was left at someone elses house and not returned. He loved it and spent all Christmas day with it hanging round his neck! It cost £4 from Primark.

Btw, I bought Pictureka for my 10 year old daughter but she had asked for it so I knew she would appreciate it. Its a good family game, even the grandparents could do it (once they had all put their glasses on!)

I wasn't sure if I was doing the right thing by buying DD2 a Nintendo DSi - but she hasn't put it down. Not all the games I've bought her are just fun - they're educational too (I'm mean like that). Seeing her face first thing she opened her presents has been Sooooo worth all the hard work through the year.

That was the expensive gift and this is the cheapest. I made DD1 a sock monkey with a fluffy sock - she loves it and even asked where I bought it. She said it was so well made, she couldn't even see the stitches. That'll be the fluffy sock.:) I was so proud that she said it was her best present and she's 19! She could have chosen her Sat Nav or the Money we gave her towards her first car, but no - it was my monkey.

  • Bought DD2 a wooden dolls house for xmas at a summer car boot then panicked that at 10 she would suddenly be too old but she loves it.

Last year DS spent a fair while playing with a £1 set of cars!

DD's are sharing an ipod touch - which they love..... but DD2 was made up with a pink wind-up torch from Asda! The difference in price was incredible!

well some of my sons favourite Xmas prezzies include: Bart Simpson Noise Putty (makes a fart sound when you stick your finger in the pot!) - from the £1 Shop!, small bouncy ball with a face and fluffy hair - bought from Sainsburys in the sale last summer for £1, Hot Wheel Slipper Socks - £1 shop again!

I also bought all 3 Kids some squirty foam body wash from Home Bargains for less than a £1 each and they have all gone crazy for that! lol.

same with DD her main presents were a bike and camcorder, and among her gifts from Father Christmas included club penguin membership, we are literally having to remove the computer from her lap, morning tonight if she had her way!
