Reapplying for a previous job

Have any of you guys ever gone back to a job that you used to work at and also, how difficult was it? I have applied to a lot of retail places for a P/T job but to no joy. A few years back I worked at Sainsburys (4 years) however I left after starting Uni (regret this now). Now that I have a lot of spare time I wanna work again. Also it would be difficult for me to work in my original store as its too far away.
Would it be best if I just send out CVs and cover letters to the Sainsburys stores that are close to me now, or should I still contact my original store. Kind of like getting my foot back in the door. What would you do? Also if I do contact the stores that are close to me, should I address the CV to the manager?
Thanks

I think there is an application form that you can use to apply to any branch you want to. However it is worth contacting where you worked before and speaking to the HR manager and explaining your circumstances, they maybe able to fast track you to your preferred branch.
I went back to work at my old job. I was working there full time and left for something better, except it wasn't, so I went back to my old job part time within two months.0 -

I had a part time job for 4 years while at college, and had to leave when I got a full time job at the end of my course. I was one of the best performing employees while there, and they were sorry to see me go (and I was sorry to go, it was the most enjoyable job I ever had). 5 years later I was in a position where I could return to the same place, the exact role I did was advertised and the job was still exactly the same, but there was a new manager to apply to, and even after specifying that I had already done the same role in the same company for 4 years, I didn't even get an interview.0 -
If Sainsburys have employed you before, and you left on no negative terms, they would be more than happy to reemploy you over someone who hasn't worked for the company before. I would suggest contact all the local managers by telephone, if they aren't available make sure you get a name and try again. Once you've got through explain you've worked for the company before and ask if you could send your CV by e-mail.

Think you will have to go thru the process again?
I was told by someone that Sainsbury's do not advertise, All their jobs are online.
I should think they will be many people who have left since you left.

If you left them on good terms then they will probably take you on again if they need anyone. I worked for a petrol station for 6 months, left them and then a year later I needed a job and I worked for them for another 8 months.
You can apply for Sainsbury jobs online so you'll be able to see if one closer to you is hiring. If they aren't looking at the moment then it wouldn't hurt to hand in a speculative letter along with your CV. If you can get the managers name for each store then I'd address it to them - you can just call up the store and ask for the name of the manager to get it. I don't think I'd contact your previous store unless you want a job with the previous store. I would have my work history on my CV and then point out in the letter that you worked for them before in this other store as a store assistant (?) and as you are now seeking part time employment you would be keen to work with Sainsburys again. Then refer to any other work experience and the skills you can offer them and maybe a rough idea of when you can work seeing as it's part time that you want.
