Well not had much time to post over the last month.
But things that have happened were, girlfriend and I went to Rome for a long weekend, I proposed, she said yes. :T I had got a 'token' ring, so that I had something to slip on her finger to remember the occasion by. And the Tuesday after we came back we went to Hatton Garden and she choose a ring, which we were lucky that could be taken away right there and then.
So apart from paying out for the trip away and the ring, I have still managed to make a OP.
Like before I will detail how the OP was made up from, in case it helps anyone else.
£90.19 - Sold some old gold had hanging around not being used.
£23.00 - Lottery and Thunderball wins.
£42.16 - eBay decluttering continues.
£13.92 - Jackpotjoy winnings.
£10.85 - Sale of DVDs to Music Magpie.
Meal planning continues to be a success in cutting down on the food bill.
Also looking through my original mortgage paperwork, I realised my MFD was based on the fixed rate followed by a rate linked with base. That was worked out at 6.70%. However the current follow on rate would be 1.45% if rates were to same the same (although I know they won't). Anyway I have revised my figures and now the mortgage will end on August 2029, shaving 98 months (8 years 2 months) off the original MFD.
Summary:
Outstanding mortgage as of 30/12/2010 - £55,083.10
Original MFD - October 2037
Overpayments Made - £308.31
Outstanding mortgage as of __/__/____ - £
Revised MFD - August 2029
Interest Saved - £3,984.14
Months Saved - 98 months earlyFinancial Aims for 2012:
1. To pay off Car loan (£2,163.85 / £300.23 : 13.9%) 2. To pay off Joint OD ([STRIKE]£1,928.53[/STRIKE] / £1,928.53 : 100%) 3. To pay off GF's CC (£1100.31 / £0 : 0%) 4. To OP Mortgage (£1000 / £0 : 0%)
Money Saving / Making in 2012:
1. Ebay (£0 ) 2. Surveys (£0 ) 3. Quidco (£156.45 (Feb 12) ) 4. Lottery (£0 ) 5. Groceries (£0 )0 -
My doesn't time fly. It's been 7 months since I wrote an entry on this journey.
Well since then we haven't done any OPs, but this mainly down to the OH now being pregnant (due 17th MArch 2012) and we will be moving in November and increasing our mortgage from circa £54k to £121k . Also I am either about to change jobs, or force my existing boss to near match another companies offer to keep me. Either way it's a major increase on take home pay.
Still once we are settled in the new place, we will need to purchase a few things, such as blinds, curtains, flooring etc. Then December brings xmas and are having both sets of parents to dinner.
And after all of that will re-commence the OPs. Our new mortgage allows 10% per calendar year, in minimum amounts of £500. So we have thought about opening a ISA and as it reaches £500, empty and OP, as our rate will be 2.44%. Just got to find an ISA that allows unlimited withdrawals without penalty to the rate.
So the journey resumes.........Financial Aims for 2012:

It's funny that the start of a new year makes you feel like saying "right this is the year I sort everything".
Looking at the fact I started the journey to freedom diary a year ago, being honest I didn't really embrace it. A single post in September told that we are about to move and will have an addition to the oasisfever household in March 2012.
The move to the new house is still on, although had been put back to this month due to being a new build and not yet completed. So sometime this month we will move. The mortgage will be £121,995.
Baby number 2 is still on schedule for March 17th, although OH is rather large for weeks, so might be early!
On the job front I secured another job, as I was on part time with current employer, so handed in notice and current employer didn't want me to leave so matched other companies offer. Therefore now full time which is good.
First on the "to do" list is once the move goes through will clear points 1 & 2 on the financial aims in my signature.
Point 3. will be cleared very shortly from some funds that we are releasing.
That will leave just the mortgage to concentrate on.
We will have a fair bit to pay out for before OPing though as still have to purchase blinds for whole house, and flooring although getting this at cost due to OH's dad being a flooring specialist.
I set a target of £1200 OPs last year and only managed £308.31. Although short of target I realise that was more than the year before of £0, so "every little helps".
The GF is on board 100% and I think that helps, as she has never been the one for looking at the financial side of things before, but realises the benefit of being smarter with our money.
So the journey continues......Financial Aims for 2012:

Hey oasisfeverfish and happy new year!
i know the feeling of wanting to sort everything for the new year (!)
Great that GF is on board- it makes it much easier when you are both in it together I think!
