Freezer broken down.

I just found out that my freezer has broken down. As I don't know how long it has been like this (I was alerted by drips from the bottom) I daren't use any of the food that was in it.
I am very short of money and don't have much in the way of cupboard standbys.
I have to tax the car which leaves me approx £7 to spend on food to get me through for a while.
I have some tins of corned beef, tuna, beans, tomatoes etc. I have baking goods and access to fresh eggs.
Apart from bread, potatoes and pasta, what can I buy to make things stretch out for as long as possible?
Any suggestions welcome!

sorry to hear about ur freezer. i feel ur pain. not long ago hubby turned freezer off instead of the toaster. i was gutted.
do you have insurance ? could u claim on this ?0 -
Sorry to hear that, what bad luck.
Has everything completely defrosted? If you have meat which is still icy, it will be OK to cook now. Cool it down and put it in the fridge and it will keep you going for a couple of days.
Check out/ask on Freecycle for a freezer. You never know your luck.
You could also ask neighbours if they have any space in their freezers if anything is salvageable to cook and refreeze.
Best of luck0 -
Oh dear! Bet poor hubby feels bad.
I only took out very basic contents insurance and I don't think it covers the freezer, but I will double-check. Thank you.I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to breakMy attitude depends on my Latitude 49° 55' 0" N 6° 19' 60 W0 -

TBH the contents are a bit whiffy, so I daren't really try to eat anything, but I will go through things and see if there's anything that's salvageable.
I will check our Freecycle at some point for a replacement.
I know I won't starve for the next few weeks, but I'm not very good at thinking laterally about how to stretch out what I have.
I'll be checking out the reduced section of the supermarket daily I think!I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to breakMy attitude depends on my Latitude 49° 55' 0" N 6° 19' 60 W0 -

When was the last time you opened it?
I genuinely would check everything bit by bit to see what can be cooked/frozen again once you have a freezer from the fresh stuff you have froze. A mixed bag of foods will always smell iffy at first. One day I might be more organised...........
