I'm a bit miserable tonight. A good friend's just told me that he handed the keys for his business over to the liquidators today.
Him and his wife ran it together so its not just him out of work today but his wife too :-(0 -

well i'm sure one of them will get a job fairly soon, was just a bit of a shock when he told me, and its going to be a shock for him too having to do what a boss tells him to again!
We've a very thick frost here already but no snow yet fingers crossed :-)0 -
very sad puddings
I might not have a job after March this year, but am not worrying about it, there is no point.
The lady I work for, has her own training business, but did not have the foresight to look forward and think of other ways to keep her business afloat. She relied on the Government giving funding for people to be qualified in certain areas, and wrongly assumed this would just go on forever.... she has now realised this is not the case and is desperately trying to raise new paying business.0 -
i sometimes grumble about having to share a house , other peoples mess and the lack of privacy, but i have my own (failing) business and some weeks the only thing keeping me afloat are the lodgers! so guess i should be grateful :-)0

Oh I hope things work out for you come April Aureol - is hubbie's work 'safe' as far as any job is safe these days?
I had to ring up electric supplier yesterday to reassess my monthly payment. Had an estimated bill showing I owe them £278  So I read the meter and input those online thinking the estimate was way off. Well it reducd the bill, I now only owe them £230   I'd owed them a little after the last bill but £230 now
Anyway, I rang them up and asked to double my D/D to £60 until the outstanding amount is cleared. It puzzled me as to how my usage had gone up so much though I expected it a little as we used the immersion heater for hot water most of the summer/autumn/into winter as we had no oil, but not this much. Then Mr 3Dogs reminded me that he had ued the electric convector heater when I was up at Mam's until the heating oil was delivered just before I go back, so 2/3rds of the quarter - so, when you think about it, with electric going up in price too, it's understandableMr 3Dogs 3-7-12

DH is self employed and works in the construction industry. Last year he lost £6K because his employer at that time didn't pay him weekly like he was supposed to. He kept promising the money was coming, he was selling his house overseas, etc, etc. Until one day DH realised his money wasn't coming and it was time to find someone else to work with. He works for a new employer, longer hours, 8am, to 6pm, 7pm some days, half hour lunch break, less money than he was on before.
BUT this guy had work on 4 Jan, most construction industries are quiet from 4 Jan for a few weeks, and has work until March. So we can't complain too much. Only problem is he is not seeing much of DS and it is impacting on them both.0 -
oh 3Dogs, I submit monthly meter readings to my electric and gas company, so my bills are always upto date and accurate, no surprise bills for me. Is it worth doing the same? Calling/going online monthly with electric figures? Have you done all the no paper bills, e-bills, so they give you a discount on your bill, etc?0
