Best way to sell books?

I sell books , a standard chart style paperback weighs more than 250g and less than 500g. It is also too thick when wrapped to go as a large letter. Therefore a standard packet would cost £1.95 2nd class and £2.24 1st class.
You are quoting large letter rates at less than 250g, so a very thin old fashioned paperback or a thin lightweight penguin classic. In the OP it says
Obviously hardbacks would in most cases be even more than my 'average' figure. A Standard modern hardback for instance a Terry Pratchett weighs 622g which would cost £2.36/£2,75
Okay, I clearly don't read modern paperbacks, as I've never had to pay that much to post one, but then I'm just selling off my old books, I'm not in the business. You do have to be careful that you aren't out of pocket. I wonder how the booksellers can make a profit, though?
I found the thread I linked to very helpful for selling on Amazon. On there it says that the latest blockbusters aren't in demand anyway, so Amazon may not be the best place for the OP.0 -
As another poster has indicated, for fiction paperbacks I would go with Greenmetropolis.
You get a fixed £3 per standard paperback book, out of which you pay the postage, but i have sold quite a few.
Many thanks for this tip. I listed my books on there last night and sold one this morning! :j
It was an old OU coursebook that I hadn't even read, so I was amazed to sell it.0 -
If you can hang on a few months then I find that car boots are the best place to sell modern fiction. I use GM for specialist books and for books that have been reprinted with new covers.0

If you want to sell a lot in one go, AbeBooks might be worth a look. You fill in a form with the ISBN numbers and they'll tell you how much they offer for each. I haven't used them myself, but I was looking at them as I'm also trying to make more room on the bookshelf...
Oh, well, having just tried entering the ISBNs of a few of my books, seems they are quite fussy about which books they want to buy. Text books and out of print editions may do best?0 -

Thanks. I tried a few of my books on there and it seems that the more academic books had a selling value but not the mainstream ones. The prices it was coming up with were around £1.50, so not much but better than giving them away.
I think I'll see if they sell on Amazon or Greenmetropolis first, but this is a good fallback option.0 -
Most of my books I've always given to charity shops, but since signing up on here I've tried Greenmetropolis. I listed 10 books about 3 weeks ago and sold one on Christmas Day. I was quite shocked that it cost nearly £2.00 to post it, but then, I'll still be a pound better off than I was before.
I do have about another 150 I could list so might have to try the 3 for 2 thing though if I want to shift them.
Good luck0
