Travel Expenses - can they stop it?

I've worked offsite for companies and the rule was that if your work base (the address written in the contract) was where any meetings where you didn't get paid travel expenses to go to them. If you then worked/went to a meeting at a client site even if it was the same site for about 2 years they would pay the travel expenses because these where tax deductable.
I suggest you try and speak to your boss about it informally as he may have been told by his accountants that you guys can no longer claim travel expenses to the office as it is considered your main place of work. Or alternatively some of the people in your group may be pushing up their expenses as a way to get extra income, and this is a way of controlling them.
Some companies will happily continue to pay some staff this money but others will see it as a way to cut down on expenses.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
