Small wedding venues!

Why can't I find any? Everywhere seems to be able to seat the world and his wife. There is only going to be me, oh, our 4 children, oh's nan, her partner and my friend - so 9 of us. I want something that is small, cosy, intimate not a huge great room.

We are in Poole, Dorset but we don't have to get married here, I don't mind a little travelling :). I only want somewhere to actually get married and then we can go and eat somewhere after, so a very low key day!

Any ideas/advice/suggestions would be fab thank you!

Do you mean a licensed wedding venue for your ceremony? Most are fairly large as it makes them more money, I guess small ceremonies just aren't very lucrative. :(
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.

Here's a 38 page PDF of places to hire in Bournemouth. http://www.dorsetrec.org.uk/F_Docs/Places%20to%20meet.pdf

If you go through searching for the word "seats" then you can skim through to find something that'll seat, say, 12-15 people, then see where it is and if it's suitable.

It's intended for meetings, but you really need a small conference room, in a nice place, with some faclities, so it might either hold the answer, or give you ideas.

P.S./Edit: I assumed you were looking for somewhere to have a sit down/scoff/cut a cake, not to actually get married.
  • It's a bit far from you, but I found this place while I was looking for venues, and thought it looked lovely. Is there anywhere like this near you?

I mean the place to actually get married! I just want to go for a quiet meal somewhere else afterwards.
I will have a look through the suggestions, thanks :)

Comlongon Castle in Scotland. Worth the travel.!! Have a look on its website, it caters from two people upwards, but is small and intimate.
  • Definitely persevere. I had the same problem, although there will be 25 of us in all. Finally found somewhere where we can have the ceremony and reception (which will just be a meal afterwards) at the same place for a reasonable price. Took a lot of searching and keeping our eyes open for last minute deals though. Most places near me in Kent had minimum numbers, high peak prices etc whereas we just wanted somewhere nice to get married amongst our closest friends and family.
