Best Ext Hard Drive, 1TB, ethernet connection?

Hi,
I'm so confused!
My laptop is 4 years old and very nearly full and I have no backup if it dies:eek:. Therefore I need to buy an 1 TB external hard drive to store all the valuable docs on as back up.
A friend suggested I get one with an ethernet connection that I can plug into my router (wow I'm trying to learn fast!).
Can anyone suggest a good ethernet one?
I've tried searching via Amazon etc, but can't seem to get a list of just ethernet ones and am getting more confused by the terminology by the minute!
Advice gratefully received
Thanks

Thanks for your reply!
Is it this:
Netgear Stora 1TB Home Media Server - 2 Bay Network Attached Storage ( 1 X 1TB drive included )
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002SNBCSQ/ref=asc_df_B002SNBCSQ1636648?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&!!!!!googlecouk06-21&linkCode=asn&creative=22206&creativeASIN=B002SNBCSQ
I guess the plus point is that I can add another drive when I fill the first one?
Thanks

This is cheaper and more in line with your needs; http://www.amazon.co.uk/product-reviews/B001HZ1R9U/ref=cm_cr_pr_hist_1?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=0&filterBy=addOneStar
However - one backup is never enough. Buy yourself a cheap USB drive to attach to your laptop, or another NAS drive to make copies of your main drive.
One backup is good, two are better!0 -
With the Netgear you add a second drive and you can mirror the first so you really have a backup of your backup. I think Netgear have an offer on that they will send you a free drive. Sods law the offer ends tomorrow.0

Hi CountryGoose,
Thanks for your help. The reviews don't sound too promising, or is this a common problem with these devices?
Thanks

Is it essential to have it hooked directly to your network? Do you have several computers that will frequently need to access it? If not your probably better off saving money and just getting a USB drive, you can get a terrabyte of storage for under £500
