Anyone help with this?

Hi,

I am a single mum on IS, Have been for for a few months due to split with Fiance, My daughter is 1, I am so bored of being at home all day every day, I miss having a reason to go out in the mornings, I also miss adult conversation. As much as I love my daughter, I need some work, I need to get out there again as my confidence is just shot to pieces at the moment and I feel working could really help lift my spirits so to speak.

I am looking for jobs on Direct Gov site and found a few I could be really good at however they want CV's and I am a complete loss on how to create a good one!

Any tips/ideas?

Thanks.

I'm baffled at the references I see to CVs. Most of the jobs I applied for actually specified no CVs!
However, if you google it I am sure there is plenty of advice out there. Here is one.

If posting a CV on a website I would be careful about the personally identifiable information included.
Education and job history are the main things. But I also had a section on skills/experience. Include non job skills. I am sure being a mother involves lots. And seeing as you are on here, you are probably computer literate too.
Don't forget to show any (legal) activities and interests.
    Make them interested in YOU.
They used to say no more than 3 pages but these days they probably say 1 page. Keep it brief. A useful guide is to register with an employment agency. Then take a look at the CV THEY draw up.
Once you have your basic CV you can tinker with it, ie altering the focus to suit individual job applications.
    Good luck.

TTs - you need to start with the basics - you can google CV and get those. The key is to try and match your skills to the job. Most jobs will give a "person specification" and/or "job specification". Try and highlight on your CV the skills that the job is asking for. Make sure that it is not more than 2 pages long and laid out clearly. If you speak to local Job Centre they should be able to direct you to a local free CV writing course or one-to-one assistance. Hope that helps.
  • Thanks for the replies. :-) I have had a quick browse and made a start, I have a works focused interview coming up in January so will mention this to whom ever I have my appointment with, bit nervous as first one! :o
